Historical evolution

In March 1962, the suburb of Pingdingshan City was established. There was no independent administrative system in history. In September 1993, donggaohuang Township in the suburbs was put under the jurisdiction of Weidong District, Jiaodian and Xuezhuang townships under the jurisdiction of Xinhua District, Mazhuang street in Weidong District, Nanhuan street and Yaomeng street in Xinhua District under the jurisdiction of suburbs. On August 10, 1994, the Ministry of Civil Affairs approved to change the name of the suburb of Pingdingshan City to Zhanhe District, because the northern boundary is close to the Zhanhe river which flows through the urban area, and officially changed the name in September.
