LV Cheng square is located in Zhongyuan District of Zhengzhou city. It was built in 1986, opened to the outside world in May 1987 and expanded in 1997. Located at the intersection of Zhongyuan Road and Songshan Road, green city square is the most famous city square and the center of Zhengzhou city. It is an important place for Zhengzhou people to carry out cultural, assembly and entertainment activities. Zhengzhou Metro Line 1, Metro Line 9 (under construction) and Metro Line 10 (under construction) have stations here.

The green city square was built in 1986 and opened to the outside world in May 1987, with a planned area of nearly 9 hectares. The square is located at the intersection of Zhongyuan Road and Songshan Road, which is close to the municipal Party committee and government in the West. There are music fountain, viewing platform, sculpture and other facilities in the square. With a large area of green lawn, flowering shrubs, flowers in three seasons, evergreen in four seasons and pleasant environment, it is an important place for the masses of our city to carry out cultural, assembly and entertainment activities.

However, with the acceleration of the construction of Zhengzhou Trade City, the original square and facilities have been difficult to meet the needs of the provincial capital party and government organs and the people for large-scale cultural, assembly and entertainment activities.

In April 1997, with the concern and support of the municipal Party committee and the municipal government, the municipal management committee carried out a large-scale expansion and reconstruction of the green city square. After seven months of intensive construction, it was completed and opened to the outside world on November 30, 1997.

General layout and function

According to the principle of cross century and high starting point, through creative planning, design and construction, the reconstruction planning of green city square has created a green city square with strong sense of the times and openness, perfect service function, reasonable spatial layout and beautiful landscape environment, which has unique Central Plains cultural characteristics. The planned area is 16.25 hectares, and the actual management area is 12 hectares.

After reconstruction, the original north-south axis of the square is retained, and the original five music fountains are used as the matrix to rotate 90 ° to form the east-west axis of the square. The vertical axis relationship enhances the stability of the square. In the eastern part of the expansion, a sunken "stone square" is formed, which echoes the original "water square" of the western music fountain. The vertical space contrast is formed by the height of water square and the low of stone square, and the virtual space contrast is formed by the virtual space of "water square" and the real space of "stone square", which enriches the spatial change of the square and enhances the attraction of the square.

The reconstructed green city square breaks the traditional square mode, reflects the openness, widens the entrance, hardens a large area of square, shortens the distance between the city and the square, and makes the masses more participate in square activities and urban life.

After the reconstruction, the green city square has strengthened the functional differentiation, and divided the square into three functional areas, including the assembly area, the central cultural entertainment area, and the garden viewing area. To meet the needs of different functions, fully reflect the diversity and comprehensiveness of the square's culture, rest and assembly nature.

The greening of the square combines "point", "line", "surface", "tree", "shrub" and "grass", and tries to expand the greening area to reflect the theme and artistic conception of the green city square. The greening area accounts for 52.81% of the total area, up to 5.82 hectares. According to different functions, the plant configuration is divided into regular plants which are neat, strong and rich in sequence, and irregular plants which are rich in natural taste. It not only pays attention to the ornamental, but also takes care of the needs of the public's activities. The large area lawn is designed with wavy composition to enhance its ornamental. The flower planting is mainly evergreen, taking into account the four seasons landscape, so that there are flowers in three seasons, evergreen and green in four seasons Forever.

There are 1254 sprinklers, 891 underwater lamps, 121 water pumps and 4 water cannons installed in the square, with a total power of 650 kW. The main fountain is more than 38 meters high. The fountain pool has its own characteristics and echoes with each other. It can form a three-dimensional water curtain with various changes according to the music rhythm. With the radiation of water cannons, it is full of vitality and interest. The water surface area of the fountain is 0.43 hectares, accounting for 3.91% of the total area.

Square hardening shop is diversified, with different materials, different textures, different colors and different scales to guide people's activities and define the activity area. The hardening area is 4.75 hectares, accounting for 43.18% of the total area.

On the basis of the original two sculptures of Song Mountain and the surging Yellow River, the square adds a group of sketches, which are integrated with the garden and green space, highlighting the characteristics of the Central Plains culture.

The lighting of the square is multi-level configuration. Five high pole lamps are installed symmetrically. Its brightness can cover the whole square. 59 street lamps, 20 lawn lamps and 300 fence lamps are installed. The multi-level lights in the night sky of the square complement each other, and the scenery is charming. A few years ago, the square pigeon settled in the green city square, adding a new landscape to the provincial capital Zhengzhou. With the concern and support of the leaders of the municipal Party committee and the municipal government, the green city square has built a new pigeon house and introduced 1600 excellent pigeons. After domestication by the breeders, the pigeon house has got along well with the tourists and won the favor of the general public, especially the teenagers.
