Hulunbuir National Museum was built in 1998, with two themes of "cradle of ancient ethnic groups in northern China" and "home of hunting and nomadic ethnic groups in northern China". It is located near Shengli Street, Hailar District, Hulunbuir City, Inner Mongolia. The Hulunbuir National Museum, with a collection of more than 10000 pieces, officially opened on June 20, 2009. Hulunbuir National Museum is the only comprehensive museum in Hulunbuir City, with distinct regional and ethnic characteristics. It is one of the key Museums in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. In the museum, there are mammoth fossil reproductions unearthed in zalainuor, "skull fossil reproductions of zalainuor people" and some national daily necessities.
The total building area is 13000 square meters, with three floors of exhibition hall and 4500 square meters of exhibition area.
Development history
Hulunbuir National Museum was built in 1998. It is a combination of the original Hulunbuir League cultural relic station, exhibition hall and cultural relic shop. It has two brands: Museum and Municipal Cultural Relic Management Committee Office. It has a staff of 33. It is still a branch level institution and belongs to Hulunbuir Cultural Bureau. There are seven functional departments, including the history department, the Ethnic Affairs Department, the exhibition office, the preservation department, the security department, the office and the tourist souvenir service center. Among them, there are three positions with senior professional titles, ten positions with intermediate professional titles, and the rest are junior and service personnel positions. They are responsible for the professional guidance of Hulunbuir museums and cultural relics protection institutions at all levels, cultural relics protection, field investigation, site management, historical research, publicity and education, etc., and they keep more than 10000 precious cultural relics and specimens including first-class cultural relics It manages more than 400 key cultural relics protection units and ancient sites at all levels in Hulunbuir city.
In June 2003, the former site of the museum, south of Shengli Street, covered an area of more than 10000 square meters, and more than 4000 square meters of museum buildings were demolished. Hulunbuir municipal government decided to use the old building of the municipal government to rebuild and expand into a new museum. The old government building, with an area of 7.000 square meters, is an antique building in the 1950s, which is worthy of protection and can be declared as a key cultural relic protection unit at the municipal level. The reconstruction and expansion of the building into a museum is conducive to its protection, and its geographical location meets the requirements of the site selection of the museum.
On October 1, 2003, the ground was broken and the expanded area is 7760 square meters, which is consistent with the style of the old building of the government. It is a combination of the layout of the ancient Chinese traditional courtyard architecture and the western open green space form. The completed Hulunbuir Ethnic Museum block faces Shengli Street from north to south, which will become an important tourist attraction in Hulunbuir city and provide multi-level sightseeing and rest space for the masses.

The main exhibition hall has three floors, and the hall on the first floor is the exhibition center, with an area of 1.200 square meters. The second floor is the basic display of the museum. It is the most distinctive exhibition in Inner Mongolia, the exhibition of hunting and nomadic people in northern China, with the same area as the first floor.
The third floor is Hulunbeier natural resources exhibition hall, which displays Hulunbeier's rich natural resources and beautiful ecological environment from paleontological fossils to modern animal and plant specimens. Six exhibition halls will be opened up in the old building and two delayed sub buildings, including Tuoba Xianbei, Genghis Khan, Shaman culture, national defense education, scientific and technological achievements, and national art. Since September 2003, Hulunbuir city has invested 70 million yuan in the civil engineering and exhibition work of Hulunbuir National Museum. The total construction area of the museum is more than 6200 square meters, and the exhibition hall area is nearly 5000 square meters. Soon, the construction area will be expanded to 15000 square meters, and the exhibition hall area will be nearly 10000 square meters.
