Mazu Pavilion

Mazu Pavilion is located in the southeast of Macao, on the hillside to the west of Mazu Pavilion, guarding Zhuhai. It is the symbol of Mazu culture in Macao, and also the oldest of the three Zen temples in Macao. It has a history of more than 500 years. This scenic spot was listed in the world heritage list with the historical city of Macao in July 2005. Mazu pavilion was called niangma temple, Tianfei temple or haijue temple in the early days, and later it was named "Mazu Pavilion", commonly known as "mage Temple" in Chinese. The site in front of the mage temple is the place where the Portuguese first landed in Macao, which is the starting point of the integration of Chinese and Portuguese cultures. Mazu Pavilion

Mazu Pavilion is located at the top of Qishan mountain, shanbing village, Shanting Township, Putian City, Fujian Province. It is the primary scenic spot project of Mazu city. Its overall shape is dignified and simple, light and dynamic, compatible with traditional style and modern flavor. The pavilion is four stories high, with a total height of 32.3 meters. It takes the meaning of the 23rd birthday of Mazu in March of the lunar calendar. The total construction area is 2685 square meters, and the base area is 1568 square meters.

The pavilion is square in plane, with four corners reduced, forming a Begonia shape. The first floor is extended, and the ring is surrounded by open corridors. The second, third and fourth floors are retracted layer by layer. The ring is surrounded by empty railings, and the roof is Xieshan, forming a front and back three ridge. The main ridge is raised and pulled up, and the two ends are Xieshan, facing Meizhou Mazu temple.

Historical story

Mazu Pavilion is commonly known as Tianhou temple. It is said that Tianhou was born in Putian, Fujian Province, also known as niangma. She could foretell good or bad luck. After her death, she often appeared on the sea to help businessmen and fishermen eliminate disasters and save themselves from danger. So Fujianese and local residents set up a temple to offer sacrifices.

Cultural carrier

Mazu pavilion was built in 2006 under the leadership of the Chinese Mazu Cultural Exchange Association. It was completed and opened to the outside world in 2008. The pavilion is dedicated to the statue of Mazu, with a hall, exhibition room, exhibition hall, etc. for incense burning worship, sightseeing, reception and rest, colorful earth exhibition and exhibition of Mazu culture. There is a large-scale mahogany screen in the hall, on which is engraved the article "Mazu Pavilion Fu", which has won the grand prize in the open collection and selection of Fu at home and abroad.
