Yan Huiqing's old house was built in 1920s, which belongs to the special protection level of historical buildings.
Yan Huiqing (1877-1950) was born in Shanghai. In his early years, he studied in Virginia high school and graduated from the State University of Virginia. After returning to China, he became a professor of St. John's University, a scholar of translation in Tingshi, a counsellor of embassies in the United States and Mexico, and a principal, counsellor and Zuo Cheng of the Ministry of foreign affairs. After the revolution of 1911, he served successively as deputy foreign minister, minister to Germany, Denmark, Sweden and other countries, and adviser to the Chinese government delegation during the 1919 Paris Peace Conference. In 1920, he served as the Minister of foreign affairs. In 1922, he served as the prime minister and the Minister of foreign affairs. He lived in Tianjin in 1927. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, he was vice chairman of the East China military and political Commission. The building was used as the consulate of Manchukuo in 1943. The old house is a three story brick concrete structure building (with basement), with red tile slope top and clear water wall of Liugang brick. The building is symmetrical in layout, regular and generous. The vivid texture of the wall surface of ryukou brick and the western classical arches and colonnades complement each other, reflecting the perfect combination of Tianjin local building materials and Western architectural style.
