Changpu River Park

Beijing Changpu River Park, located in the east of Tiananmen Square, was opened in September 2002. Changpu River, also known as waijinshui River, is named for its calamus growing in the river. The Changpu River is the east section of the Jinshui River in the imperial city of Ming and Qing Dynasties (the section to the east of the left gate of Chang'an in Qing Dynasty is called Changpu River), which is a part of the water system of the imperial city. The river flows from the south end of Xiyuan Zhonghai Taiye pool, turns to the southeast, passes in front of Tiananmen, and then flows eastward along the north side of the south wall of the imperial city into the Yuhe River, with a total length of 510 meters. Changpu River is not only the outlet channel of Xiyuan Sanhai, but also the outlet channel of Tongzi River in the Forbidden City which passes through Taimiao to the south.

Historical evolution

In the 1960s and 1970s, the ditches were filled and changed into streets. However, the dilapidated houses were built against the red walls of the Imperial City, the imperial temple and the imperial history, which seriously affected the safety of cultural relics; the river course was filled up and the important historical sites were lost. In 2002, Dongcheng District spent money to remove all the residents on both sides of the river. After the demolition and leveling, the old road of Changpu River was excavated, and the water surface was restored, marking the Tianfei gate. The red walls of nanhuangcheng, Taimiao and huangshicheng were illuminated, which built here into a classical urban garden relying on historical sites. With a total area of 38000 square meters, the river is 510 meters long, 12 meters wide and 1.5-2 meters deep, connecting with Jinshui River in front of Tiananmen Gate. Four footbridges of different shapes cross the river. 1000 kg of Koi and red fish have been put into the river. There are more than 60 ancient trees along the river, and a large number of flowers and trees have been planted. The greening rate of the whole park is 65%. Changpu River Park is a small and exquisite Chinese garden, which is very close to Tiananmen Square. At first, there were not many visitors, only some citizens came to visit. The park doesn't need tickets. It's a quiet environment.

Scenery in the park

The Changpu River originates from Zhonghai, Xiyuan of the Imperial City, flows in front of Tiananmen, and then flows eastward along the north side of the southern wall of the imperial city. The scope of Changpu River Park: from the Cultural Palace of the working people in the west, to nanheyan street in the East, to Longqiao Hutong and nanwanzi Hutong in the north, and to the North red wall of East Chang'an Street in the south, with a total length of 510 meters, a total planning area of 3.8 hectares, and a planning green space and water surface area of 2.02 hectares,

With a total investment of 390 million yuan, the project started in March 2002. The channel reconstruction project of Changpu River Park was excavated at the original channel location to connect with Jinshui River outside Tian'an gate. The total length of the restored river is about 500 meters, the water surface is 9 meters wide, and four footbridges are erected. More than 60 big trees along the river bank, more than 500 newly planted trees, more than 2000 shrubs, more than 16000 flowers and herbs, and a large number of aquatic plants have been retained in the greening construction. The combination of greening construction and restoration of historic sites creates such scenic spots as "reminiscent of the past on the red wall", "spring on the calamus" and "sky light and cloud shadow". At the same time, on the basis of fully excavating the history and culture, we should appropriately set up sculpture sketches to set off the atmosphere and make the finishing point. The nightscape lighting of the park highlights the reflection of red walls, rivers and plants, which is refreshing.

Main attractions

The main scenic spots of the park are "spring welcome with calamus", "shadow of Tianfei gate", "nostalgia for the past with red wall", "flying rainbow with lingxu", etc. In 2003, the Imperial City Art Museum was built in the park.

Calamus welcome spring

It is located at the east entrance of the park. It is composed of six granite blocks 3.5 meters high and 1.5 meters wide. With the composition of Chinese flower and bird painting and traditional openwork technique, it shows the painting scenes of various flowers, trees, birds and birds all year round. In front of the screen, there is a stainless steel "calamus ball" model.

Shadow of Tianfei gate

It is composed of two taps with copper gate, and the clear river water together to form a simple and solemn landscape art.

Dongyuan building

It is located on the site of Chongzhi palace in Ming Dynasty. It is a group of traditional pavilions and galleries with carved beams and painted buildings.

Reminiscence of the past

It is located in the south of the park. The red wall used to be the south wall of the Ming and Qing imperial cities. The scenic spot is set against the red wall. In front of the red wall, a mountain shaped landscape stone with a height of 2 meters, a width of 7 meters, a thickness of 4.5 meters and a weight of 60 tons is placed, which is named "the five mountains alone". With white granite xumizuo.

Lingxu Feihong

The scenic spots are based on the lingxu Pavilion in Dongyuan and Feihong bridge in Ming Dynasty. The new lingxu Pavilion is the highest point of the park. Feihong bridge adopts the traditional single arch stone bridge shape, like a jade belt across the bridge.

Tianqu Garden

It's a flower, bird, insect and fish restaurant. Hundreds of ornamental pigeons in the garden are the best among pigeons, some of which are on the verge of extinction.
