Basic introduction

Located in front of the north gate of Sun Yat sen University (North), the north gate of Sun Yat sen University goes directly to the Pearl River, covering an area of 17000 square meters. It is composed of the memorial archway of Sun Yat sen University, the emblem of Sun Yat sen University, the motto of sun Yat sen University and the history of Sun Yat sen University. On the memorial archway is the six characters of "National Sun Yat sen University". The square not only highlights the style of Guangzhou as a famous historical city, but also maintains the riverside characteristics of Sun Yat sen University and protects the spirit and tradition of CUHK.

The memorial archway of Sun Yat sen University is the most eye-catching building in the square. It is an antique Chinese double deck memorial archway, which is rebuilt according to the style of the ancient memorial archway of Sun Yat sen University. Historically, due to the water transportation from Zhongda wharf to Tianzi wharf, the main buildings in the campus are facing north from south, and the north gate is the main school gate. The bronze statue of Sun Yat Sen, the symbol of CUHK, also faces the north, implying the meaning of "Northern Expedition"; the main axis of Yixian is like a pen stretching out from the Pearl River, with the tip of the pen in the South and the pen bladder in the north, implying that the Pearl river continuously absorbs water, that is, the elite of the four seas gather in CUHK. Later, due to the development of the city and the opening of Xingang Road, the south school gate gradually became the main school gate. With the increasing traffic pressure of the south school gate and the need of the overall planning of the school, the north school gate becomes the main school gate, which makes the campus more attractive.

Recreation & Entertainment

The north gate square of CUHK is close to Sun Yat sen University, the highest University in the south. It often carries out various recreational activities at night, enriching the daily life of local residents and adding a beautiful scenery to Sun Yat sen University. In the evening, there are many activities, such as singing and dancing, leg boxing, martial arts, and so on. All kinds of activities are free of charge, and tourists can participate and learn according to their interests.

Transportation facilities

Water: there are transportation lines from Zhongda wharf to Tianzi wharf, Fangcun wharf, and tourism lines along the Pearl River.

On land: the north gate tunnel of CUHK is connected with Binjiang Road.
