Xingzhi garden is located at the foot of Laoshan Mountain in Xiaozhuang, the northern suburb of Nanjing. It was built in memory of Tao Xingzhi, a famous modern educator and patriotic scholar in China. The scenic spots inside are Tao Xingzhi memorial hall, Xiaozhuang Martyrs Memorial and so on.

There is a low mountain called Laoshan in Xiaozhuang, the northern suburb of Nanjing. Xingzhi garden is located at the foot of Laoshan. The garden was built in memory of Tao Xingzhi, a famous modern educator and patriotic scholar in China. The main scenic spots in the park include Tao Xingzhi memorial hall, Xiaozhuang Martyrs Monument, Xingzhi Pavilion, Yinglie Pavilion, adult Memorial forest, etc. Tao Xingzhi's tomb was built in the park.

history

The pottery tomb was built in December 1946, facing Southeast. There are tombstones and memorial archways in front of the tomb. The monument, 2 meters high, is inscribed with Shen Junru's inscription - "the tomb of Mr. Tao Xingzhi" and "the public burial of 53 Chinese people's organizations". The memorial archway, 5 meters high and 4 meters wide, was built in December 1946. Tao Xingzhi's handwriting is engraved on the front of the archway: "love all over the world"; the couplet of the archway column is Tao Xingzhi's posthumous teachings written by Guo Moruo: "thousands of teachings, thousands of teachings, thousands of teachings, thousands of learning, and being a real person."

After liberation, the tomb was renovated and afforested for many times. In 1982, the pottery tomb was listed as a provincial cultural relic protection unit. In order to commemorate Tao Xingzhi and learn and carry forward his patriotism, in August 1993, Nanjing Municipal People's government decided to build the Xingzhi garden, renovate and afforest Tao Xingzhi's tomb area on a large scale, plant thousands of trees and flowers, lay more than 2000 square meters of lawn, and build a new Tao Xingzhi Memorial Hall on the northeast side of the tomb. On September 12, 1994, Xingzhi Park was completed and opened. On the marble wall on the south side of the gate of the garden are engraved three big characters of "Xingzhi garden" written by General Secretary Jiang Zemin, and on the marble wall on the north side of the gate are engraved 12 big characters of "come with a heart and go without half a root of grass" written by Tao Xingzhi. In 1997, the second phase of xingzhiyuan project started. A 7-meter-high monument to the revolutionary martyrs in Xiaozhuang was rebuilt, the pond was renovated, and the floor tiles were laid on the graveway and the square in front of the pottery museum.

Tao Xingzhi's mound is about 8 meters in diameter and 2.80 meters high, with seven steps in front of the tomb. There are tombstones and archways in the passage. The forehead of the tombstone is carved with cloud pattern, which is 0.60 m high, 1.56 m wide and 0.20 m thick; the height of the tombstone is 2.28 m, 1.50 m wide and 0.24 m thick; the height of the pedestal is 0.21 m, 2.35 m wide and 1 m thick. The archway is about 5 meters high and 4 meters wide.

Tao Xingzhi (1891-1946), formerly known as Wenjun, was born in Shexian County, Anhui Province. He is a famous educator and poet in modern China and the founder of Nanjing Xiaozhuang Normal University. He was the first to pay attention to rural education. In 1927, he founded Nanjing experimental rural normal school and later changed it into Xiaozhuang school. He has edited many books and periodicals, such as "teachers of rural materials" and "series of Xiaozhuang school". He advocates that society is school, life is education, and the integration of teaching and doing. He has visited 28 countries in Europe and America, publicized the idea of resisting Japan and saving the nation, and mobilized overseas Chinese to donate money to prosper the country. In the summer of 1938, he was a member of the first National Political Council. He actively responded to the call of the Communist Party of China for a comprehensive anti Japanese War and established the China Wartime Education Association. In July 1939, an educational school was founded in GUSHENG temple, Hechuan County, near Chongqing, Sichuan Province, which mainly recruited children with difficulties. We can see pictures of Yucai students opening up wasteland for production, and students' troupe's creation of Sichuan drama "Lang Ge ban". In January 1946, Mr. Tao founded a social university in Chongqing and served as its president, which greatly promoted the process of democratic education. He actively responded to the call of the Communist Party of China for a comprehensive anti Japanese War and established the China Wartime Education Association. After the victory of the Anti Japanese War, Tao Xingzhi returned to Shanghai and immediately engaged in the struggle against dictatorship, democracy, civil war and peace. He joined the China Democratic League in the spring of 1945 and was elected to the Standing Committee of the Central Committee. On July 25, 1946, he suffered from cerebral hemorrhage and died in Shanghai.

In 1939, Tao Xingzhi founded "Yucai School" in Chongqing. Yucai School is the most successful school founded by Tao Xingzhi. The students are mainly the children in the nursery. They don't charge tuition and living expenses, so it's very difficult to fund them. Someone asked Tao Xingzhi, "why do you cross the river with stones on your back?" Mr. Tao said, "what I carry is not a stone, but a lover.". This is love for students, love for schools, love for education, love for working people, love for the Chinese nation.

Mr. Tao has four words: "love all over the world". We love not only human beings, but also living things. We are against killing living things to make specimens and turning biology into a study of dead things. This is the greatest love in the world. The promotion of such love can teach people not to kill each other any more and to live in harmony with nature.

"Integration of teaching and doing"

The debate failed to pass in two hours at the school affairs meeting of Nanjing Normal University. With the outbreak of the May 4th movement, Mr. Tao published the article "integration of teaching and learning". Influenced by this, the teaching methods in Nanjing universities were changed to teaching methods. Two years later, the theory of teaching and doing was established, and finally determined the integration of teaching and doing, focusing on doing.

The idea of "integration of teaching, learning and doing" is first from teaching, to teaching students, and then to teaching students to learn (more active), to connect with their own knowledge and implement it in practice.
