Ancient city site of Pixian
Pixian ancient city site is located in the ancient town of Pidu District, Chengdu City. It is the most well preserved site among many prehistoric city sites in Chengdu Plain. The site is about 650 meters long and 500 meters wide, with a total area of 320000 square meters. It belongs to the late Neolithic age and has a history of about 4000 years.
In 1996, the ancient city site and other Liqian city sites in Chengdu Plain were rated as one of the top ten archaeological discoveries in China. In 1997, a large-scale archaeological excavation found the largest ceremonial architectural remains in the same period in China, which was reported by dozens of news organizations at home and abroad, causing great concern in the field of cultural relics, archaeology and history.
The site is located at an altitude of 565 meters. The city wall is 620 meters long, 490 meters wide, 8-40 meters wide and 0.8-5 meters high, covering an area of about 300000 square meters. Pixian ancient city site is one of the most well preserved ancient cities in Chengdu Plain. A large area of houses have been excavated in the ancient city, which is supposed to be the remains of ceremonial buildings.
