In 1883, Cheng Wenbing, the governor of Hubei Province, cultivated lotus roots in a square pond on the Gonggeng field when he repaired Zhuge's former residence in Longzhong.

In the 22nd year of the Republic of China (1933 A.D.), Liu Ji organized a renovation. Wooden railings were installed around the lotus pool. Pavilions were built in the pool, which were connected with the knee holding Pavilion by iron ropes, and covered with wooden boards to form an aerial cable bridge from the lotus pavilion to the knee holding Pavilion. They also organized actors to make up in the knee Pavilion and perform on the pavilions in the pool through the cable bridge. People can sit on the wooden railings around to watch the play. 3、 Four years later, all the wooden railings, cable bridges and pavilions were decayed. Lotus pond was also changed into rice field by later generations.

1983. The Management Office of Longzhong Scenic Area has carried out a thorough transformation of the lotus pool. The mud has been removed, the rocks have been piled around, the lotus pavilion has been rebuilt, and more than 20 kinds of lotus have been planted in the pool, which adds color to the scenery of Longzhong. Only now can the lotus pool really live up to its name.
