The church is the first Christian building wholly invested, designed and built by Chinese people. After its completion, it has been managed by Chinese pastors. Its designer is Li Honggen, the son of Li Daohui, the first Chinese priest in the original temporary chapel, and its builders are Yang Changli and Yang Changzhen, builders from Huantai

. The bottom floor is built with rubble walls, and the second floor is built with clear water red brick walls and red tile roofs. The church faces south with an I-shaped plan. The main building is two stories high and one story underground. There are four storey towers on the East and west sides of the south facade. The whole main facade is dominated by horizontal lines

Although it is not as dignified as other religious buildings, the architectural style is sincere. After entering the church from the steps, there is a small hall with three bays. There are stairs on the left and right sides of the hall leading to the tower on the second floor. Behind the small hall is a two-story high chapel with three deep rooms. There is a cloister around the second floor. The internal space is spacious and can accommodate about 1300 people according to the seating order (it is said that 1400 people)

Historical development

Jingsi road church was originally a Chinese Christian chapel. It started construction in 1924 and was completed in 1926, with a construction area of more than 1300 square meters. The shape of the church is spectacular, absorbing the design style of the western architecture of Jinan commercial port at that time. The interior decoration is simple, spacious and bright, and can accommodate about 1300 people for religious activities according to the seating order. However, there are more than ten bungalows in front of the main entrance of the church. Judging from the mottled walls, each house has a history of at least several decades. Many of these bungalows have been rented out for business activities, affecting the overall style of the church.

In June 2009, the relevant departments organized the demolition of more than 400 square meters of bungalows in front of the church, cleared up the sundries erected and piled up, and removed all the advertisements hung and posted. After the demolition of the house, the garbage has been removed. There is a spacious space in front of the church. The old church is shining in the bright sun. The buildings around the church will also be decorated and beautified as a whole. The open space in front of the church will be built into a small square. The church and the memorial site of CAI Gongshi opposite it will echo each other. The two old buildings will glow on the young Jingsi road.
