Siyue Academy

Siyue academy is located in Dongmen pedestrian street, Luohu District, Shenzhen. It was built in the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty and has a history of more than 300 years. It was once a reception station for the general strike in Hong Kong and was baptized by the storm of revolutionary war. "Learning for the people and benefiting the people" is the consistent purpose of the ancient Siyue Academy.

Siyue Academy was originally the ancestral hall of Zhang family in Ming Dynasty. It is a famous family in Shenzhen. The four brothers are listed as Siyue, Aiyue, huaiyue and nianyue in order. They are the ancestors of Xiangxi village, Hubei village, Shuibei village and Tianbei village. Siyue Academy was originally located at No.22 Nanqing street, a historic site familiar to old Shenzhen people. It was later moved to the current site and rebuilt in 1997, retaining the original style. In June 1925, it was set up as a reception station for the provincial and Hong Kong strike by the special commissioner of the all China Federation of trade unions. After the baptism of the revolutionary war, it is a municipal cultural relics protection unit. "Learning for the people and benefiting the people" is the consistent purpose of the ancient Siyue Academy. Siyue academy has a hollow character of "one of the best in China" and a folk cutting art of cutting into characters; "Mai hot drawing" and "Doudou painting" are vivid; there are all four treasures of the study; each piece of porcelain is exquisite. The ink of a famous writer is a flying spirit. Siyue academy is now a municipal cultural relics protection unit.

Three hundred years of history and vicissitudes of time have accumulated rich cultural heritage. Siyue Academy was once the cultural symbol and education center of Luohu commercial market, the "Shenzhen market". How many students learned to read and know the world here. In the spring and Autumn period of the Academy, a wall of mahogany does not depict the spirit of the pioneers.

Guangdong used to be the area where Marxism spread earlier in China. As early as 1924, the students of Guangdong agricultural institute came to Bao'an to mobilize the masses and establish the party organization. Shenzhen played an important role in the Seamen's general strike in Hong Kong and the provincial and Hong Kong general strike led by the party. The organized workers' pickets patrolled Shenzhen's land and water roads day and night to carry out the task of blockade of Hong Kong. "Siyue academy" was the activity station of the labor movement.

In June 1925, the strike broke out between the province and Hong Kong. Shenzhen, where the peasant movement under the leadership of the Communist Party of China flourished, became the contact point and the second battlefield of the workers' movement between Guangzhou and Hong Kong. In accordance with the instructions of the Guangdong District Committee of the Communist Party of China and the all China Federation of trade unions, a reception station for Hong Kong striking workers was set up on June 19 at Siyue college, 22 Nanqing street, Shenzhen Hui (now Dongmen old street).

In June 1925, Hong Kong workers held a general strike. On the early morning of the 19th, Hong Kong Tram workers took trains or walked to Shenzhen to gather at Siyue college. More than 1000 striking workers return to Guangzhou by train from Shenzhen every day. At that time, the farmers of various businesses and townships in Shenzhen also actively bought tea porridge and welcomed Hong Kong workers. The residents of Luohu, Nantang, Shuibei and Huangbeiling also vacated their houses for temporary accommodation. Unexpectedly, this hundred year old academy is also a historical witness of the Chinese revolution.

With the change of the old street, Siyue Academy was demolished in 1996. In order to make up for this regret, in the subsequent reconstruction of the old street, Siyue Academy was specially rebuilt in the "old street style block", covering an area of more than 200 square meters, to become a history museum, where people can completely "listen to the story of the old street".
