How many mysteries and wonderful landscapes are hidden in the mysterious ocean? On November 29, 2014, "deep sea exploration Museum" opened in the East Campus of Tongji University, unveiling the mystery of deep sea for the public. The deep sea exploration Museum of Tongji University is open to the public free of charge from Tuesdays to Sundays. From Tuesdays to Fridays, only group appointments are accepted. On Saturdays and Sundays, you can visit by yourself. The opening time of the museum is from 10:00 to 16:00.

It is understood that the Museum covers an area of nearly 500 square meters, including four parts of "ocean Overview", "deep-sea exploration", "deep-sea travel" and "undersea observation". With a large number of modern display technologies such as acousto-optic technology, the exhibition items are vivid and interesting, and the deep-sea fascinating world is vividly, intuitively and stereoscopically presented, bringing visitors a new multi sensory interactive experience.

The newly built "deep sea exploration Museum" belongs to the second phase project of Tongji University's deep sea science museum. As early as 2008, Tongji University School of Oceanography and Earth Sciences built the first popular science exhibition hall with the theme of deep sea on the first floor of the building. So far, the museum has received more than 100 groups, with a total number of thousands of visitors. It has become a popular science education base in Shanghai. The first phase and the second phase are complementary. In the future, it is planned to build the third phase project of deep-sea Science Museum in the harbor base of State Key Laboratory of marine geology of Tongji University, combined with the construction of ocean drilling core library.

The State Key Laboratory of marine geology of Tongji University has made a series of valuable explorations and practices in marine science popularization. Through a series of measures, such as establishing deep-sea exploration Museum, compiling marine science popularization books, holding marine science popularization lectures, and setting up special science popularization topics at important academic conferences, the Marine Science popularization work has been widely carried out for all walks of life. The audience of these popular science activities from children to primary and middle school students, including the general public, has had a wide range of social impact.
