Gai jiaotian's former residence, also known as Yannan Jilu, is located at No. 26, Jinsha port, Hangzhou. It was built in 1920s and 1930s by Gai jiaotian, a famous Peking opera performing artist.

Introduction to scenic spots

The former residence is composed of hall, main hall, back hall, left and right wing rooms, Buddhist hall and other buildings, maintaining the typical architectural style of Jiangnan folk houses with green tiles and white walls. There are more than 200 relics of Gai Lao in his former residence, showing his artistic experience and achievements. It was opened to the outside world on October 1, 2003. Gai jiaotian (1888-1971), formerly known as Zhang Yingjie, was born in Gaoyang County, Baoding, Hebei Province. When he was young, he was forced by life to learn opera. At the age of 13, he went to Hangzhou to learn singing at the "Tianxian theater" in gongchenqiao. At the age of 15, he changed to a martial arts student. Later, he became famous for his martial arts, and was known as "the true hero of Yanbei, the living Wusong of Jiangnan". In 2003, Gai jiaotian's former residence was restored according to its original appearance, displaying the relics and graphic materials of Gai jiaotian. The appearance of the former residence is white walls and green tiles, which is a typical architectural style of Jiangnan folk houses. The interior is composed of hall, main hall (Bainian Hall), back hall (artist's home), left and right wing rooms (GAI jiaotian Memorial Hall), Buddha Hall and other buildings. It is a unique and complete private garden. Gai jiaotian lived here most of his life. On weekdays, he not only practiced martial arts and sang opera in the hospital, but also received Mei Lanfang, Zhou Xinfang and other famous fellow artists here. Zhou Enlai, Chen Yi and other revolutionaries of the older generation also visited here. The former residence not only witnessed Gai jiaotian's own life experience, but also witnessed some fragments of the development of modern drama and the respect and care of the older generation of revolutionaries for artists.
