Houguan Lake

Houguan lake is located in Caidian District, Wuhan City, Hubei Province, and between the Third Ring Road and the ring road of Wuhan city. It is the second largest lake in Caidian District, with beautiful scenery. Houguan lake is originally a part of the East Lake system in Caidian, but with the process of urbanization, Houguan lake has become an independent lake.

The origin and legend of the name

It is said that the shape of the lake is like the word "Guan".

It is also said that it was named "Houguan Lake" because of the legend of Jiang Ziya.

It is said that when Jiang Ziya was young, he was good at both civil and martial arts, and his martial arts were unparalleled. However, he was born at a wrong time, and he was not valued by the imperial court. When he was 47 years old, there was a severe drought. His father died in search of water, and his mother was dying. Jiang Ziya begged for water while carrying her mother.

Finally, the mother and son found a large lake in Caidian, and settled down by the lake. They made a living by cutting firewood and fishing. On this day, a begging old man with straw sandals and a broken hat came. Seeing his pity, Jiang's mother did not hesitate to pass her only piece of bread to the old man. The old man said, "I still have my wife seriously ill in bed. Please help me and send my wife for treatment. You can see the North Star and cross three mountains to the north."

The next day, Jiang Ziya went over three mountains and saw a palace. A man came out of the palace. It was the old man who begged yesterday. After the recommendation of the old man, Jiang Ziya became an official in the court. Later, Jiang Ziya became a marquis and assisted six Zhou kings. Therefore, the local people call the big lake he lived in before he became an official "Houguan Lake". Every student from Caidian District who goes to Beijing for the examination must go to Hankou by water from Houguan lake. The good news from the capital spread to Hankou and Caidian by water.
