Pingyao ancient county yamen, which was built in the Northern Wei Dynasty, is a well preserved Yamen in ancient China.

The county yamen is divided into three roads: left, middle and right. From south to north, the central axis is yamen, Yimen, Paifang, lobby, Zhaimen, Ertang, Neizhai, etc., and extends outward to nanheng street. The ancient county yamen can be regarded as the epitome of the Imperial Palace in terms of architectural layout and functional setting. Here we can see a variety of ancient documents and a large number of ancient instruments of torture, which basically preserved the characteristics of the Yamen in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. There is also Guanyun building behind the county yamen, which is the place where the magistrate observes the weather of the four townships after tea every day, reflecting the position of ancient Pingyao agriculture in the feudal economy.
