Rock Island (xiwao Island / Huzhong Island)

The original name of xiwao island is Shuizhai island. The local people call it Snake Island. It gets its name because there are so many snakes coming out to bask in the sun after the rain in summer. American botanist Dr. Locke once lived in Shedao for eight years. He has a good relationship with Mosuo people. Mosuo people have deep feelings for this late foreign friend. Most people also call this island "Locke island". Locke island is covered with dense plants. The largest tree on the island was planted by Dr Locke in the early 1920s. Now it is a first-class protected plant in Lugu Lake. There is a "manidui" at the peak in the center of Rock Island. The prayer flags around manidui have been washed away by the wind and rain. It is the symbol of Rock Island.
