Karamay Friendship Museum is a Soviet style building built in 1958. After renovation, it was put into use again in 1991. There are 810 seats in the museum, which are mainly composed of the front hall, left and right corridors, auditorium and stage. The auditorium is connected with the left and right corridors and the front hall respectively through two double leaf wooden sound insulation doors, and the corridor and the front hall are connected through two-way side push-pull folding doors.
On December 8, 1994, the Education Bureau of Karamay City organized 796 students, teachers and relevant leaders from 7 middle schools and 8 primary schools in Karamay City to hold a special cultural and artistic performance in the theater of Karamay friendship hall in order to welcome 25 officials of the "two bases" assessment and acceptance team of the Education Commission of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The stage curtain near the light ignited due to overheating, resulting in 325 deaths, including 288 primary and secondary school students. On December 17, 1994, the local government wanted to blow up the damaged friendship hall, but because of public protest, it was renovated and preserved until 1997. On September 24, 1997, the main building of the friendship hall was demolished by blasting, leaving only the front hall. In 2010, the Friendship Museum became a cultural relic protection unit of Karamay City.
