Tu youyou's former residence

Tu youyou's former residence is located in Lianqiao street, Haishu District, Ningbo City. The number of the house says No. 26 Kaiming street. It is the old residence of Yao Qingsan, Tu youyou's uncle, economist and former president of Yonggang Economic Association. Tu grew up in this house.

On December 8, 2015, Tu youyou's former residence was selected as one of the first batch of historical buildings in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province.

Recent situation of former residence

This old house, built in the early years of the Republic of China and standing along Kaiming street, is the only traditional building on the street. Its owner is Yao Qingsan, a former president and economist of Hong Kong Yonggang Friendship Association. At the same time, it is also the place where his niece Tu youyou lived and grew up as a child.

Due to reconstruction and renovation, it is necessary to enter Yao's house through the small gate of taqian street. As soon as you push the door, the smell of dust coming from the old house. The whole building, facing south from north, is composed of front hall, hall, main building and back room. The front hall and hall are two-story buildings with three rooms and two lanes. Stepping through the empty hall, you can see a small yard which is not spacious but warm. A tall tree covered the main building with luxuriant branches and leaves. In early autumn, fallen leaves quietly spread all over the yard.

The door of the main building was closed tightly, as if no one had opened it for a long time. It's dark in the room. You need to use a flashlight to step through the two symmetrical compartments. As the stairs on the left side go up, the light gets brighter through the glass windows on the second floor.

The partition on the second floor is clearly visible. Three same staggered space, with two porches to the balcony. Looking up from the side, the horse head gable stands, telling the past glory and present vicissitudes of the old house owner.

The official name of the house is Yao house, but the relevant departments have been protecting it as the former residence of heavyweight scientists. The administrative department of cultural and social security has long expected to upgrade the old house, which witnessed Tu youyou's growth in Ningbo, to a cultural and social security unit.

Tu Youyou, as the first Chinese to win the Nobel Prize in science, is another world-class business card of Ningbo. As her birthplace, Ningbo should protect Tu youyou's life in Ningbo, including this old house.
