It used to be one of the most prosperous business streets in the history of South China. During the period of the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China, it was a business and leisure Distribution Center for innumerable itinerant traders from south to north when they went in and out of Guangdong. It was the most prosperous business street at the junction of Guangdong, Hunan and Jiangxi provinces. It was the famous "boss Street" of that year. In addition, during the Anti Japanese War, the Guangdong provincial government moved to Shaoguan to avoid the war. According to senior citizens, before the opening of the Yuehan railway, the Beijiang River system was the main trunk line of North-South transportation. After reconstruction, the total construction area of Bainian East Street is about 80000 square meters, including 48000 square meters of aboveground commercial area and 30000 square meters of underground parking area, with a total length of about 1300 meters.
