Guishan National Forest Park is located in Shilin Yi Autonomous County, Southeast of Kunming, the capital of Yunnan Province. Laoguishan is named for its majestic and picturesque mountains, which are shaped like the back of a turtle. It was later translated into laoguishan, which is called "gouboma" in the local Yi language, meaning "mountain of geese". Guishan mountain is 2601 meters above sea level, 14 kilometers long from north to South and 10 kilometers wide, with a total area of 3206 hectares. It is the remaining vein of Yunling mountain. The relative height at the foot of the mountain is 981 meters, which is the highest mountain in the county. Typical karst landforms formed by ancient soluble carbonate sedimentary rocks and limestone are widely distributed in Guishan area. The forest cover of Guishan is 80%, and there are many kinds of forest vegetation, most of which are semi humid evergreen broad-leaved forest formed by subtropical monsoon.

Features of scenic spots

Guishan is the highest peak in Shilin County, with high mountains and broad land, and a myriad of sceneries. In the early morning, I climb Guishan to see the red sun and the morning glow; in the evening, I look at Guishan to see the setting sun and the afterglow. On a sunny day, at the top of Guishan mountain, you can see the beautiful plain of Huxi, Maitreya, Shizong and Lunan, the mountains, rivers and lakes, and the vast sand. What is most unforgettable is the world of snow and ice. As far as the eye can see, it seems to be "the scenery of the north, thousands of miles of ice, thousands of miles of snow, mountains and silver snakes, the original Chi wax elephant", which makes people think of Pianpian. Guishan sea of clouds is also worth seeing. It can be viewed from the top of the mountain or from the bottom of the mountain. The sea of clouds, in fact, is a white mist like smoke, sometimes rising, sometimes flying, sometimes standing. When rising, the peaks show their arms and the mountain flowers open their smiling faces; when flying, the mountains are full of shadows and the forests are hidden and visible; when standing, the ocean is full of heaven and earth, so mysterious and unpredictable that people deeply feel the wonder of nature.

The forest cover of Guishan is 80%, and there are many kinds of forest vegetation, most of which are semi humid evergreen broad-leaved forest formed by subtropical monsoon. It is mainly composed of Cyclobalanopsis yunnanensis, Blumea balsamifera, Cyclobalanopsis glauca and Rhododendron. With the ups and downs of Guishan terrain, lawn is divided into several, quite interesting. Especially at the beginning of spring and midsummer, rich ferns such as clover, color leafy grass, Arnebia yunnanensis, Lithocarpus, Gentianaceae and so on are blooming and resplendent. Walking on the grassland, you feel as soft as a green blanket, fragrant and refreshing. Precious plants and natural herbs are found in every corner of Guishan mountain. There are more than 460 kinds of common plants. The national second-class protected plants include Toona sinensis, camphor wood from Yunnan, Cephalotaxus fortunei, beech wood, Magnolia officinalis, Eucommia ulmoides, fan fern, etc.; the provincial second-class protected plants include xiaoguonanzhu, chaguocha; the provincial third-class protected plants include dianxiangmu, chatiaomu, Mahonia sinensis, Huanglian, etc., and the three famous flowers of camellia, Rhododendron and Primula, which Yunnan people are proud of. There are more than 100 kinds of herbs, such as grass bird, flowers on leaves, Gastrodia elata, three needles, Pinellia ternata, Lily and plum, Gentiana, Platycodon grandiflorum, etc. These rare and precious plants are precious natural resources of the whole mankind, which have high value for biodiversity protection, genetics, ecology, social and economic development. Guishan mountain is an ideal natural habitat for wildlife due to its high forest density and good forest ecological environment.
