Zhongbei university is one of the 100 shortlisted institutions of higher learning in the basic ability construction project of universities in the central and western regions of China. It is a university built by the people's Government of Shanxi Province and the State Administration of science, technology and industry for national defense, and managed by the people's Government of Shanxi Province. Now, as a provincial key university in Shanxi Province, it used to be one of the eight undergraduate universities in national defense industry.

Historical evolution

At the beginning of the school

In May 1941, under the personal care and guidance of Peng Dehuai, deputy commander-in-chief of the Eighth Route Army, and Zuo Quan, deputy chief of the general staff, the general headquarters of the Eighth Route Army established the Taihang Industrial school, the first military school of the Communist Party of China and the Eighth Route Army, in Taihang Anti Japanese base area. Liu Ding served as the first president.

In 1949, after the founding of the people's Republic of China, the school moved to its current location and changed its name to North China military vocational school.

In October 1951, the school changed its name to North China Ordnance Industry School and was under the direct leadership of the General Administration of ordnance industry of the Ministry of heavy industry of the Central People's government.

In August 1953, the school changed its name to North China Second Industrial school and was under the direct leadership of the second Ministry of machinery industry.

In March 1957, Deng Xiaoping, general secretary of the Central Committee, accompanied by Tao Lujia, first Secretary of the Shanxi provincial Party committee of the Communist Party of China, inspected the University and gave an important instruction that "leading cadres should go deep into the lower class, care about the life of teachers and students, and close the relationship with them."

In February 1958, the school changed its name to Taiyuan machinery manufacturing industry school and was under the direct leadership of the first Ministry of machinery industry.

Period of Taiyuan Institute of machinery

In September 1958, the school changed its name to Taiyuan Institute of machinery.

In September 1961, the teachers, students, experimental equipment, books and materials of four conventional weapons majors (artillery, self weapons, ammunition, fuze) of Beijing Institute of Technology (now Beijing University of Technology) moved to Taiyuan Institute of machinery and were directly under the leadership of the third Ministry of machinery industry

In 1961, the university trained graduate students for the first time.

In March 1962, Shenyang Institute of Technology (now Shenyang University of Technology) moved two conventional weapons majors (gunpowder and explosive) to Taiyuan Institute of machinery.

In January 1963, the University was under the direct leadership of the science and Technology Commission for national defense of the people's Liberation Army, and became one of the eight universities directly under the central department (unit) of the people's Republic of China and the eight undergraduate universities of national defense industry.

In 1971, the school was under the direct leadership of the fifth Ministry of machinery industry

In November 1981, the University was approved as one of the first batch of master's degree awarding units in China.

In January 1982, the University was approved as one of the first batch of bachelor's degree awarding units in China.

In May 1982, the University was under the direct leadership of the Ministry of ordnance industry of the people's Republic of China. It is one of the seven undergraduate universities directly under the Ministry of ordnance.

In July 1988, the school was under the direct leadership of China National Ordnance Industry Corporation.

In January 1991, the school was under the direct leadership of the Ministry of mechanical and electronic industry.

Period of North China Institute of Technology

In December 1993, the University changed its name to North China Institute of technology. Zhang Aiping, the founding general, inscribed the name of the University. The University was under the direct leadership of China National Ordnance Industry Corporation. In the same year, the University was granted the right to assess the qualification of associate professor.

In June 1998, the University was awarded the seventh batch of doctoral degree conferring rights in China.

In April 1999, the University became a college jointly built by the Shanxi Provincial People's government and the national defense science, technology and Industry Commission of the people's Republic of China.

In 2000, the University "Instrument Science and technology" became a first-class doctoral authorized discipline, realizing the breakthrough of zero first-class doctoral discipline in Shanxi Universities.

In August 2001, Comrade Bo Yibo inscribed "people's ordnance first school" for the 60th anniversary of the school.

The period of North China University

In June 2004, the University changed its name to North China University. Calligrapher Mr. Mi Nanyang wrote the name of the University

In April 2006, he was selected into the National College Students' cultural quality education base.

In November 2010, Chen Zhili, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, went to the school to inspect and guide the work.

In March 2011, the University became a University jointly built by the people's Government of Shanxi Province and the State Administration of science, technology and industry for national defense of the people's Republic of China; in September of the same year, the University was selected into the second batch of excellent engineers education and training program of the Ministry of education.

On February 18, 2012, Liu Yandong, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, visited the University and praised the University for winning three national science and technology awards in one year. In October of the same year, the University established Shuozhou Electric Power College of North China University

In May 2013, the University was selected into the national "Midwest university basic capacity building project"

In July of the same year, "Shuozhou Electric Power College of North China University" was renamed as "Shuozhou campus of North China University", and Shanxi Provincial Department of education, Shuozhou Municipal People's government and North China University jointly built Shuozhou campus of North China University.

On June 2017, Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, inspected Shanxi, and watched the operation of the metal 3D printing equipment developed by the school in detail. He learned about the development and industrialization of 3D printing technology in schools.

In March 2018, the University and seven universities jointly established the B8 collaborative innovation alliance and served as the permanent member of the alliance

In July, the University and Dezhou City jointly established the Dezhou Graduate School of North China University

In May 2019, the University became the governing unit of China Aerospace Science and Technology Education Alliance

In November, the University, together with the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Taiyuan Municipal People's government and Shanxi Institute of coal chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, jointly built Taiyuan College of energy and materials, Chinese Academy of Sciences; the University became one of the first members of the University Counselor alliance
