Kashgar old city

The residential group in the core area of the old city is one of the largest earth building groups in the world. The earth building itself is of great historical significance and value, integrating the characteristics of Han and Tang Dynasties, ancient Rome heritage and the modern life of Uygur people. The streets and lanes of Kashgar old city are crisscross, the layout is flexible and changeable, and the winding paths lead to seclusion. Most of the dwellings are of civil, brick and wood structure. Many traditional dwellings have a history of more than 100 years. It is the only labyrinth city block with Islamic culture as the characteristic in China.

Nowadays, the residents of the old city still abide by the earth houses and the traditional customs of thousands of years. However, at present, the local government is carrying out the old city reconstruction project, and many ancient houses have been demolished. However, although there are places to sell tickets in the old city, there are as many as eight or nine entrances and exits without tickets (for example, opposite the mosque, or behind the statue of Chairman Mao, etc.), and you can linger for most of the day when you have time.
