Weigang ambush Memorial

The Weigang ambush Memorial consists of two parts: the victory Memorial and the Battle Memorial. The monument is 25 meters high. The top of the monument is an ancient bronze rifle model. The front of the monument is inlaid with the name of a bronze stele. The relief on the front of the pedestal is engraved with the symbol of the New Fourth Army (N4A). On both sides are the poems of Chen Yi and Su Yu praising the battle of Weigang. The red flag at the top of the pedestal shows the artistic conception of Chen Yi's famous sentence "the banners of the old country come to the south of the Yangtze River".

The exhibition room of Weigang battle site vividly reproduces the scene of the New Fourth Army marching into southern Jiangsu and winning the first battle with detailed pictures. Su Yu led the advance detachment of the New Fourth Army and the first unit of the second regiment of the first detachment to ambush the Japanese transport convoy in Weigang, southwest of Zhenjiang, and won the whole victory in only half an hour. Weigang battle was the first battle for the New Fourth Army to march into the rear of Jiangnan and fight against Japanese aggression. This battle shocked the south of the Yangtze River, demoralized the enemy and boosted our morale, which opened the prelude to the establishment of the Anti Japanese base area in southern Jiangsu.
