The Mahao canal, also known as the majiahao canal, is the southern section of the South Jiaolai Canal, connecting Jiaozhou Bay in the north and Tangdao Bay in the south. It is 14 Li long, 6 Zhang wide and 3 Zhang deep. There are four villages on both sides of Mahao canal: Guanting, haobeitou, haowa and haonantou. There are two ancient steles in Guanting village, one is the record of Mahao in Jiaozhou, the other is the stele of Xiuhe Gong Yi, which was established in 1528.
Mahao canal is now a key cultural relic protection unit in Qingdao. The south entrance is in Tangdao Bay, and the north entrance is in Huangdao Qianwan, with a total length of 2.5 km. In the Yuan Dynasty, the excavation failed. In 1537, it was an important channel for ships from the south to enter Jiaozhou Bay from the Yellow Sea.
