Dongba Valley

Human history

"Dongba" means "priest" in Naxi language, which is passed down from father to son or from master to apprentice. They are the organizers and hosts of religious activities. Because they master Dongba language, can write and recite scriptures, can dance, paint and sculpture, and know astronomy, geography and calendar, they become important inheritors of Naxi ancient culture.

Dongba Valley is a collection of ethnic customs. Woodcarvers, stonecutters, tofu makers and textile makers are all rural farmers. Although they are different nationalities, they seem to be members of a big family. Here, six ethnic courtyards are next to each other, showing the multi-ethnic customs of Lijiang.

Main attractions

Craftsman Street

The main street of dongbagu is the craftsman street, which is the place where primitive commerce and trade gather goods. On both sides of the street are some minority courtyards and shops full of ethnic characteristics. There are a variety of jewelry, fur and medicinal materials. LiNbO Bridge

There is no direct bus to dongbagu, you can ride from Lijiang (about 15 km from Lijiang ancient city)
