Nanjing University History Museum

Nanjing University History Museum and digital History Museum, which started to be built in May 1999, are located in the old library of Nanjing University (the former Jinling University Library), with an area of 1400 square meters and an exhibition area of about 1000 square meters. Gu Yuxiu, a centenarian and former president of Central University, inscribed the name of the museum. The museum is divided into five exhibition areas, namely, 100 year history of the University, today's Nanjing University, 100 year talents, multimedia demonstration and gift hall.

The school history museum is built in the old library of Nanjing University (the former library of Jinling University), with an area of 1400 square meters and an exhibition area of about 1000 square meters. More than 1600 photos, more than 700 historical materials, objects and models, nearly 100 videos, and more than 200 gifts and inscriptions donated by alumni at home and abroad for the centennial celebration of Nanjing University are displayed.

Development history

Since May 1999, the Nanjing University History Museum and digital history museum have been under preparation. With the strong support of the school leaders, teachers and students, alumni at home and abroad, business department of Jiangsu Branch of industrial and Commercial Bank of China, China Foreign Construction Corporation, Beihai Galaxy High Tech Co., Ltd., the Museum has finally opened on the occasion of the centennial anniversary of Nanjing University. In the past three years, comrades from the University Archives and other relevant units have successively gone to all parts of the country, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan to collect nearly 5000 historical materials, objects and photos from alumni at home and abroad. In addition, we have transcribed more than 200 videos of major activities and achievements of famous alumni in CCTV, Jiangsu TV and educational technology center, which greatly enriched the archives collection.

Preface hall on the first floor

On the walls of the entrance hall and both sides of the stairs of the Museum of school history, the layout plans of the Gulou and Pukou campuses, the motto of "honesty, simplicity, boldness, greatness, encouragement, learning, Dun and Xing" of Nanjing University, and the school gate and scenery of different periods, as well as the group photos of some graduates are displayed with photo Lightboxes and color sprayers. As soon as you enter the school history museum, it is like entering the "time flint road" of NTU. You can't help recalling the past, remembering your teachers and classmates.

Multimedia demonstration hall on the second floor

In the middle hall on the second floor, a large rear projection screen is used to broadcast the school Anthem of Nanjing University composed by Jiang Qian and Li Shutong, and the video of "Centennial Nanjing University" produced by CCTV and campus TV stations. When you are in the multimedia demonstration hall and listen to the beautiful melody of the school song and the impassioned and cordial talk and memories of the seniors, you will feel the deep cultural heritage of NTU, the fine style of study and the inspiring spirit of NTU.

Exhibition hall 1 - a century history of the University

The first exhibition on the east side of the second floor is divided into "successive presidents", "three rivers and two rivers", "Nangao Dongda", "Central University", "Jinling University", "Nanjing University" and other columns. Using more than 50 meters long exhibition cabinet and seven independent Exhibition cabinets, more than 400 photos of different periods, more than 200 historical materials and objects are displayed. These include the diploma of Liangjiang Normal School in the second year of Xuantong, the instruments used by Wu Jianxiong, the queen of physics, when he was studying in school in the 1930s, and the bronze bell of Jinling University. Two color TV sets are used to broadcast the videos of "60th anniversary", "80th anniversary" and "90th anniversary" of Nanjing University and the foreign version of "Introduction to Nanjing University" produced in 1985. On the octagonal pavilion in the middle of the exhibition hall, four computers are used to play the multimedia system of Digital School History Museum, which integrates commentary dubbing, photos, text, music and some videos. Through these display means, it vividly and accurately reveals the development history of Nanjing University in the past 100 years and the school running concept, fine tradition, the construction of study style and school spirit in different periods, as well as the important achievements it has made.

Exhibition hall 2 - Nantah today

The second exhibition on the west side of the second floor is divided into such columns as "leadership care", "team building", "discipline building", "personnel training", "scientific research", "condition building", "international exchange", "spiritual civilization building", "alumni complex" and "donation and assistance". With a 60 meter long exhibition cabinet, more than 700 photos and more than 300 teaching achievements since 1978 are displayed Certificates, prizes, winning works and objects of important scientific and technological achievements. In the six independent display cabinets in the middle, the international awards, national teaching and scientific research awards and awards of our teachers over the years, as well as the certificates of the number of SCI papers ranking the first in Colleges and universities in China for seven consecutive years, are displayed. Among them, academician Ren Meie was awarded the Victoria medal by the Royal Geographical Society of the United Kingdom, and Professor Zhang William was awarded the Grand Cross of the Federal Republic of Germany. Here you can also see the revised versions of the article "practice is the only standard for testing truth" published in Guangming Daily, which triggered the national discussion on the standard of truth. At the same time, two color TV sets were used to continuously broadcast videos of General Secretary Jiang and other party and state leaders' visits to the University, as well as activities of international exchanges and cooperation, alumni and all sectors of society in donating funds to help students. In the middle of the octagonal pavilion, four computers are used to interactively click and play a large number of activity videos and dubbing "today's Nantah" multimedia demonstration system.

Exhibition hall 3 - Centennial talents

The Centennial talent hall is divided into such columns as "scientific giants", "pioneers among alumni", "academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Sciences", "well-known scholars of Humanities", "well-known alumni of Hong Kong, Taiwan and overseas", "alumni among leaders at or above the Ministry and provincial level", "recasting brilliance", etc. More than 300 famous Alumni's performance materials and more than 200 objects and models are displayed in the 40 meter long exhibition cabinet and four independent Exhibition cabinets. The two TV sets broadcast videos of "two bombs and one star award ceremony", "song of the top five" and "Li Guoding", "Chen Baichen" respectively. Two computer touch screens are used for visitors to click and watch the performance introduction of more than 300 famous alumni and videos of more than 20 alumni.

Through the above-mentioned display means, the development history of NTU in the past 100 years, the crystallization of the hard work of several generations of NANDA adults and students, has been concentrated and deposited here.

Some collections

Diploma of Liangjiang Normal School

The predecessor of Liangjiang Normal School is Sanjiang normal school, which was founded in 1902. Nanjing University has a history of 100 years. During this period, it was renamed Liangjiang Normal University (1906), Nanjing Higher Normal University (1914), National Southeast University (1921), the fourth Sun Yat sen University (1927), Jiangsu University (1927) and National Central University (1928), and Nanjing University in 1949. The school history museum collects diplomas of Nanjing University in various periods, which is an important material for the study of modern Chinese education and the history of Chinese education.

Memorial stone of Jinling University

Jinling university is another important source of Nanjing University. Jinling University was founded in 1910. Its origin can be traced back to Huiwen college founded by American Christian Church in 1888. Jinling University was one of the famous missionary universities in the period of the Republic of China. In 1951, it was taken over by the government and merged into Jinling Women's College of Arts and Sciences. In 1952, when the national departments were adjusted, the engineering, agriculture, normal colleges and related departments of Nanjing University were independent. At the same time, they were merged into the College of Arts and science of Jinling University, still known as Nanjing University. The Museum of history of Jinling university has a commemorative stone tablet (which says "Huiwen academy and Hongyu academy stand side by side") and a bell at the gate of Jinling University.

Revised version of "practice is the only standard for testing truth"

"Practice is the only standard for testing truth" by Hu fuming, a teacher of Philosophy Department of Nanjing University, gave birth to the first ideological emancipation movement in contemporary China, and then opened the prelude of 30 years of reform and opening up. The Museum of school history has a collection of important materials such as the revised versions of the article "practice is the only standard for testing truth".

Organization setup

The archives and History Museum of Nanjing University are established at department level, with two brands and a team. At present, there are 17 teaching staff, 90% of them have college degree or above, and 6 have senior titles. It consists of document archives room, science and technology archives room, audio-visual archives room, archives office, historical data collection and compilation room, school history management room, computer network room, School Archives Magazine department and other departments.
