Nanhu Academy

Nanhu academy is an ancient library with traditional Huizhou architectural style. At the end of Ming Dynasty, Hongcun people built six private schools on the North Bank of Nanhu, also known as "the six academies of Yihu"; in 1814, the six academies of Yihu were merged and rebuilt, named wenjiashu, also known as Nanhu Academy.

It is composed of Zhidao hall, Wenchang Pavilion, enlightenment Pavilion, Huiwen Pavilion, Wanghu Pavilion and Zhiyuan garden. Zhidao hall is a place for teachers to give lectures; Wenchang Pavilion is a place for students to worship Confucius; enlightenment Pavilion is a place for enlightenment reading; Huiwen Pavilion is a place for students to read four books and five classics; Wanghu tower is a place for teaching and sightseeing; only garden is an inner garden. In front of the academy is a lake of clear water, and behind it is a multi span building, with white walls and tiles, clear water and blue sky.

Historical evolution

Architectural features

Nanhu academy is an ancient library with traditional Hui style, covering an area of about 6000 square meters. The Academy consists of Zhidao hall, Wenchang Pavilion, Huiwen Pavilion, enlightenment Pavilion, Wanghu tower and Zhiyuan. A lake of clear water is located in front of the Academy, and the multi-storey buildings are next to the Academy. The Academy's white tiles and pink walls complement the clear water and blue sky.
