Sand island is located in the northeast of Qinghai Lake, 20km to the west of Haiyan County, 90km long, with the highest altitude of 4877m. It is a small desert beside Qinghai Lake. Sand island used to be the largest island in Qinghai Lake. It was formed by sand ridges constantly receiving wind sand accumulation. It is just like a new moon sand dune floating on the water surface, which is a great spectacle in the lake. Sand island and bird island are now connected with the land. There are three freshwater lakes in the desert.

Sand island has various yachts, sand skaters, sand motorcycles, desert off-road vehicles and other recreational projects, and an international sand sculpture art festival will be held in July every year. You can't drive into Sha Dao by your own car. You have to transfer to the bus in the scenic spot and drive from the gate to the lake for about 10 minutes, 7.5km, 20 yuan / person.

Ticket information: Tickets: 70 yuan in peak season (April 16 to October 15), 35 yuan in off season (October 16 to April 15 of the next year); interval tickets: 30 yuan, entertainment items in the scenic area are charged separately

Opening hours: the ticketing time is 8:30-18:00, and the venue will not be cleared after the end of the afternoon ticketing time; the last return shuttle bus is 20:00, and you need to return to the gate of the scenic spot with this bus at the latest
