Lulan Village (Portuguese: Vila de Coloane), commonly known as the urban area of Lulan, is an ancient village located in Lulan, an outlying island of Macao. Due to urban development and less residents, the air quality of Macao Peninsula is relatively fresh. Luhuan village extends northward to the old ferry wharf and the abandoned building area, and southward to the tan Gong temple. In July 1972, at the invitation of Macao city hall, the Hong Kong Society of archaeology carried out archaeological excavations at five sites, including Luhuan village, and discovered Neolithic cultural relics, revealing Macao's potential prehistoric cultural heritage.

Historical evolution

Luhuan village is a fishing village and trading port with a long history in the coastal islands around Guangdong Province. Archaeological findings confirm that human activities existed in the Neolithic age. In the Qing Dynasty, piracy was a serious threat to local fishermen and businessmen. The monument in front of St. Francis's Chapel commemorates the Portuguese campaign to expel pirates in 1910.
