Ji's old house

The most legendary folk house in Pingyao is Ji's old house in zhanmadao street. Ji's old house is located in No. 8 courtyard of zhanmadao street in the county seat. The owner of the courtyard, Ji HUTANG, is the 22nd generation grandson of Ji.

He said that Ji Youxian, the ancestor of the Ji family, had a lot of contacts with the government at the end of the Yuan Dynasty because he became rich in business abroad. In the mid-14th century, he bought this place with a lot of money and built a Ming tower on the spot in 1351, It was named "qifenglou". In 1369, the west city wall of Pingyao was swept across by the flood. Countless houses and houses were destroyed by the flood. Only "qifenglou" (the main building in the existing Ji's old courtyard) was safe and sound, and the rest was covered with red mud. In the third year of Hongwu (1370) of Ming Dynasty, the city wall was expanded and rebuilt into a turtle shaped city. There was a street in the area of Qifeng building. The street was named "Qifeng Street" after the building. Since the beginning of the 20th century, it has been commonly known as "zhanmadao Street".
