Madang Fort

Madang fort is a fort built in the 20th year of Daoguang reign of Qing Dynasty (1840). It is located 1.5km northeast of Madang Town, the seat of the government of Madang Town, Pengze County, Jiangxi Province, on Madang mountain on the South Bank of the Yangtze River. The river is narrow, the current is fast, and the terrain is dangerous. It is a must for military strategists of all dynasties.

Brief history of battery

In 1840, after the British attacked Baoshan in Shanghai, they went straight to Nanjing. The Qing government ordered the construction of Fort along the river for defense. Since then, the construction of Madang Fort began.

During the Xianfeng Period of the Qing Dynasty, Lin Qirong, a famous general of the Taiping army, led a heavy army to guard the Madang fort and set up defense in Hukou, Madang, Xiangkou and other places.

During the Sino Japanese War of 1894, the fort of Madang was reinforced. On October 29, 1912, Dr. Sun Yat Sen visited Madang and wrote the word "mainstay" in his own handwriting, which was engraved on Jitou rock. Later, during the Anti Japanese War, it was bombed by Japanese planes. The cannons on the fort of Madang were demolished when the warlord sun Chuanfang was defeated in 1926. Only three Fort masonry buildings remain. In 27, the fort was reinforced again. After the fall of Madang, it was seriously damaged by the Japanese army. Now there are only three empty fort and tunnel bunkers made of brick and stone. The remains of the three fort are still recognizable.

Level 3 battery

The top of Madang mountain is set at the first level fort. The battery area is 200 square meters. An arched air raid shelter is built with bricks and stones. It is 3 meters high, 3.5 meters wide and 30 meters deep. The top of the shelter is built into 50% and the soil is sealed 1.5 meters thick. The entrance is connected with the north and the south. There is a battery of 100 square meters at the north entrance.

The secondary battery is located on the hillside between the first and third levels. It is a round earth platform with a height of 2 meters and a diameter of 4 meters.

The third level fort is located at the top of madangjitou. The cliff below the top of Jitou calls for emergency with the first level fort. The area of the fort is 30 square meters. The brick arched air defense shelter is 3.5 meters high, 4 meters wide and 35 meters deep. The southeast and northwest of the tunnel gate are opposite, and there is another 600 square meters training ground
