Zhuji Lane

Zhuji lane was originally called Jingzong lane. When Jingzong was in Tang Dynasty, there was a family named Zhang who lived together for seven generations and had a harmonious family. In the first year of Jingzong Baoli (825 A.D.), the imperial court heard of his filial piety and awarded him Zhuji treasure. Because he avoided the posthumous title of Jingzong in Tang Dynasty, he changed his name to Zhuji lane.

It is located 9 kilometers north of Nanxiong county. The lane is 261 meters long and 3-4 meters wide. The ancient post road paved with cobblestones passes through the lane from north to south. In the Southern Song Dynasty, a large number of officials from the North moved to the south. Most of them lived here and then moved to the Pearl River Delta. Zhuji lane is the birthplace of the residents in the Pearl River Delta and the ancestral home of millions of overseas Chinese. Inside the lane are the north gate, the middle gate and the south gate, each with red stone as the wall base to build a small stone building (the middle is Zhuji building), which was built in the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty (1736-1795), and rebuilt from 1982 to 1985. The north gate, the middle street and the South Gate of Zhuji lane are engraved with "Zhuji tower" respectively. The South Gate Tower is engraved with "Zhuji ancient lane", with a small stone tablet beside it and the inscription "ancestral home". Beside the south gate, there is the Baoxin stone pagoda of the Yuan Dynasty, which has a peculiar shape. Under the pagoda, there is a base engraved with the year number of "Zhizheng Gengyin Mengdong" (at the end of 1350). It is the only stone pagoda of the Yuan Dynasty that can be dated in Guangdong. It is also a cultural relic that has been preserved for a long time in Zhuji lane. It has been listed as a key cultural relic protection unit in Guangdong Province. It was rebuilt in 1971.
