By the 1950s, there were 2.5 billion stone mounds. With the pagoda formed by the number of six character mantra as the boundary, together with the Sutra hall, zhuanjing tube corridor, sutra flags and so on, a large-scale pattern of Sutra stone city was constructed. history

Hundreds of years later, the wall of Mani stone has become a beautiful landscape here. It is said that there are 2.5 billion mani stones. The common carving themes are divided into two categories: one is various statues and pagodas, including Buddha, Bodhisattva, Vajra, heavenly king, Tara, eminent monk, Dharma king, benefactor and various pagodas; the other is six character mantra in Tibetan or Sanskrit. Among them, the most precious ones are tens of thousands of Mani stones engraved with laws, calendars, art discourses and various Buddha statues. Some of them engrave complete sets of Buddhist scriptures on many stones, even including the back cover and front cover, forming a set of stone carved "scriptures". It is said that there are nearly 20 billion words of scriptures carved on Mani stone here, which can be called "the first stone carving Library in the world". Every year from December 14 to 16 of the lunar calendar, Tibetan compatriots from Tibet, Sichuan and other places gather near manidui, or turn around manidui, or send mani stones, and then dance around manidui.

On the east side of manidui, there are eight white pagodas and huge Scripture tubes. On the other side, there are almost all mani stones carved with Buddhist statues and scriptures. The carving techniques are exquisite and the colors are harmonious. There are many stone carvers in Xinzhai. At the foot of Mani City, they devoutly carve with their ancestral skills, accumulate good deeds for themselves and pray for all living beings. According to the requirements of those who turn to Buddhism, they will engrave the corresponding content. It is this kind of long-term training that makes the stone carving of Mani a unique art. In terms of techniques, there are three kinds of techniques, such as line engraving, relief engraving and comprehensive techniques. The positive line engraving is to set aside the lines representing the shape on the stone plane to highlight the texture of the picture. Yin line engraving is the single line engraving of images and characters on the stone surface.

Visitors here sometimes buy some mani stones, make wishes, and then put them on the mani wall. It is said that these stones are spiritual and cannot be taken away. Every day, many Tibetans with hand-held Sutra wheel revolve around mani city. Every time they turn the Sutra tube, they read the Scriptures.
