Hua Tuo tomb

Huatuo tomb is located on the West Bank of Shiliang River in Shizhai village, Suqiao Town, 15 kilometers north of Xuchang city. It is 4 meters high and covers an area of 360 square meters. The tomb is oval in shape. Before it, there was a stone tablet erected in 1752 A.D. and the regular script reads: "the cemetery of the Chinese medicine of the Han Dynasty".

Introduction to scenic spots

Huatuo's tomb is hexagonal, surrounded by blue brick walls and covered by green cypresses and pines. In 1985, Henan Branch of the all China Society of traditional Chinese medicine held a "Huatuo academic seminar" in Xuchang, and inscribed a stone tablet of "the tomb of Huatuo, an outstanding medical scientist in the Eastern Han Dynasty". Huatuo tomb has become a cultural relic protection unit of Xuchang city. Every day, it can attract many famous doctors of traditional Chinese medicine, tourists and believers who seek medical advice.

Historical evolution

In 1993, Huatuo tomb was declared as a municipal cultural relic protection unit by Xuchang Municipal People's government. Xuchang City, county, Suqiao town and village have raised funds to repair Huatuo tomb and worked out the overall restoration plan. The mountain gate, auxiliary hall, main hall foundation and wall have been completed, which has become a tourist attraction in Xuchang.

There is a stele tower in front of the tomb, on which is engraved the "Tomb of the great doctor Hua Gong" written in regular script, as well as the life story of Hua Tuo and the words admired by later generations. The newly renovated stele tower is about 2 meters high. The structure of the roof of the building is the style of the gate tower in the northern rural areas. The flower ridge is arched and several tiled fish and animals stand on it, which is antique. There are several pines and cypresses around the tomb swaying in the wind, which adds to the solemnity of the cemetery.

The life of the tomb owner

Hua Tuo (about 145-208) was born in Pei Guoqiao (now Huazhuang, Huatuo Town, Qiaocheng District, Bozhou). He is a famous doctor in the Eastern Han Dynasty. He is well versed in internal medicine, external medicine, pediatrics, gynecology, acupuncture and moxibustion. He is especially good at surgery. He is the first to create the world's surgical anesthetic "mabeisan".

Hua Tuo was a doctor with a lot of backbone. He didn't admire high officials and high salary all his life. He practiced medicine among the people and cared about the sufferings of the people. Wherever he went, he always treated patients enthusiastically. After Cao Cao met emperor Xiandi and established his capital Xuchang, he suffered from severe headache. Mu Ming called Hua Tuo to his side and cured him quickly. Cao Cao appointed Hua Tuo as a doctor, so he was often around Taizu. Hua Tuo missed his relatives, said goodbye to his hometown, and saw that his wife and son were all ill but did not return home. Cao Cao urged him to return to the court many times, but he did not comply. Cao Cao was so angry that he took him back to Xuchang and killed him. On his deathbed, Hua Tuo asked the jailer to bury his body by the Qingshui River to show his innocence.
