Baoyan Temple

Baoyan temple is located in the mountain of xu'ao village, north of Chashan Town, Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province. The environment of Baoyan temple is excellent, with a quiet path, surrounded by mountains, springs and birds, verdant trees and pleasant scenery.

According to "Yongjia county annals" 36 volume "miscellaneous Temple" page 50, "Baoyan temple, built in Dezheng Township, song like Fu." Dezheng township is under the jurisdiction of Quxi, Guoxi, Louqiao to Wulong, Zhuangyuan, Chashan and Baixiang. Baoyan temple is now called Baoyan temple. Over the years, due to the remote location of Baoyan temple, the rise of the actual temple built in the Ming Dynasty, and the landscape of the anti Sichuan monk and Gugong cave, Baoyan temple has gradually become deserted. But in this ancient temple, a generation of eminent monks and famous artists at home and abroad, master Hongyi (Li Shutong), once left his whereabouts here.

From 1921 to 1932, master Hongyi lived in Xialiao (Qingfu Temple) and Jiangxin temple in Wenzhou City. During this period, there were few written records about master Hongyi's specific activities. Recently, I have read Master Hongyi's collection of letters (see Li Shutong edited by Qian Juntao, published by Shanghai People's Fine Arts Publishing House) and the letters about "Baoshan Baoyan Temple" in his letter to Liu Zhiping

He came to Wenzhou at the end of the previous month (many friends in Quzhou stayed here for several months). He suffered from dampness and is now recovering. There are three rafters in the old squatter house, which need to be slightly repaired, and the cost is less than 20 yuan. If you can find a way, I hope to give it to you (repair the house with this 20 yuan, if there is any surplus, I plan to use it for petty use). Repeatedly trivial request, in its best, forgive not different. Huishi still sent "Qingfu temple outside dananmen of Wenzhou to Hongyi for collection", because it belongs to Qingfu.

In the previous letter, Ji dahuilan undertook to repair the house. He should offer to the master of the temple, but he was not humble. Now, we consider that we should offer ten pieces of gold to the master of the temple to meet the needs of the Buddha statue (this year, all the Buddha statues of the temple will be decorated with gold). That is to say, those who take this merit as benevolence will eliminate the disaster and increase the good root. In 1932, when the master was in Wenzhou, he sent a letter to Liu Zhiping and CI Jushi, which said, "it's very inconvenient to live in the countryside today, so it's very inconvenient to pay the post." he begged to tell the other cloud, but the decadent man decided to live in seclusion and no fixed place to live (he didn't want to tell others) ". It can be found that master Hongyi once lived in Baoyan temple for a long time. Master Hongyi is an art pioneer in the modern cultural history. He has made great achievements in Buddhism, aesthetic education, painting, music, drama, calligraphy, stone, literature and so on. His achievements have a great influence on his later studies. Liu Zhiping, a famous musician, and Feng Zikai, a famous calligrapher and painter, are the high achievers of master Hongyi. Master Hongyi once lived in Baoyan temple, and he made a fortune for Baoyan temple and decorated gold for Buddha statues. He sincerely praised the beautiful scenery around Baoyan temple. These two precious letters, which have not been seen for a long time, add a lot of cultural connotations to the scenic spots of Baoshan Temple, xu'ao and zhang'ao.
