Xinning square is located at the intersection of Wusi street and Xinning road in Chengxi District of Xining City (formerly Jiaotong Lane wholesale market), with Provincial Museum in the East, Xinning road in the west, Wusi street in the north and provincial library in the south. The square is 407 meters long from east to west and 238 meters wide from north to south, with a total area of 111000 square meters, including 46900 square meters of pavement area and 66000 square meters of green space. The vertical axis of the square starts from the east side of Xinning road and ends at the front of the museum, which is the entrance square, the central square (Tianyuan local square) and the square in front of the museum.

Among them, the central square is dominated by large waterscape fountains, which combine wonderful music, changeable lighting and rhythm. The diameter of color music fountains is 34 meters. In the center are eight tall dandelion style fixed fountains. In the middle layer are jumping, swinging, peacock screen type fountains, and in the outer layer are umbrella shaped and mushroom shaped fountains. The four corners of the vertical and horizontal main axis are green space, and the square under the forest on both sides is composed of paving and dotted with Sophora japonica trees, forming a good rest space according to the shade. The large lawn and cherry blossom forest on the north side reflect the natural landscape. Xinning Plaza is a key image project of Xining City, with a total investment of 85.16 million yuan. The construction started in July 2000. It contains the meaning of "new century, new Xining" and integrates ecological garden, history and culture.
