Peter's street

Peter chief street is an ancient street in Macao, China. It is the first concrete road in Macao. Now, the official name of White Horse Street is Peter's road, but many Macao people still use the old name of White Horse Street. The west end of secretary Peter's street is banzhangtang street, and the east end is shuikengwei street, 235 meters long.

The Rue de Pedro nolasco da Silva is an ancient street in Macao, China. It is the first concrete road in Macao. Now, the official name of White Horse Street is Peter's road, but many Macao people still use the old name of White Horse Street. Rua de Pedro nolasco da Silva is located in the middle of the completed Peninsula, connecting banzhangtang street in the West and shuikengwei street in the East. It's 235 meters long.

Street history

The street is more than 160 years old and has three names. It was originally called hospital street, because there is a San Lafayette hospital at the east end of it (also known as white horse hospital, which was built in 1569, rebuilt several times and closed down in 1975. Now it is the office of Macao monetary and exchange supervision office, and became the office of Portuguese consulate after Macao's return). In the 19th century, there was a foreign wine agency in the street. There was a large advertising picture in front of the door, on which was the red background and white horse trademark of foreign wine. Residents have long thought that the hospital is an ominous thing, so they call the street "white horse shop". In July 1869, the municipal authority officially declared the street as White Horse Street.

Street renamed

In June 1942, in order to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of former Secretary Pedro nolasco da Silva, the Council Council (now the city hall) announced that the street would be renamed as long street of the Bureau. However, many people still call it White Horse Street.

Mandarin Theatre

In addition to the st Lafayette hospital, there is also an architectural relic on the street, namely the Guohua theater at the west end. Although it has been renovated in recent years, its facade is still the same as before. In the past, Diaoyutai, opposite the theater, had a three story building (now demolished). It was the site of Haojing reading newspaper run by the alliance. As a semi open organ, it publicized the revolution and organized the masses.

Other buildings

At present, Macao Daily, starlight bookstore, Anglican Macau caigao middle school and Baptist middle school are all in the street. There are many shoe stores on the street, which is one of its characteristics.
