Lama Temple is the oldest "Benbo sect" (black religion) religious site of Tibetan Buddhism. The Mosuo people in Lugu Lake believe in their own primitive religion, Daba religion, as well as Lamaism. After Lamaism was introduced into Lugu Lake area, the local Prime Minister built temples of black and yellow sects. Lama Temple is the only black temple in Lugu Lake. The ritual activities held by the temple according to the law became a grand festival of Mosuo people.
