Wuhan Polytechnic University, formerly known as Wuhan Institute of technology, is a multidisciplinary university with engineering as the backbone and coordinated development of engineering, management, science, arts, economics, agriculture, arts, law and other disciplines. Founded in 1951, the school is the first one in China to train professionals in the grain industry. It once belonged to the former Ministry of grain, the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of domestic trade. In 1998, it was jointly built by the central government and the local government, with Hubei Province as the main management system. It is an ordinary university supported by Hubei Province and the State Food Administration. In 2013, Wuhan Institute of technology changed its name to Wuhan University of light industry.
