Gulong Temple

Gulong temple, located in Huanglongxi Town, Huayang Town, Shuangliu County, Chengdu City, is the earliest temple built in Huanglongxi ancient town. It is located at the south end of the main street of the ancient town and sits south to north. Gulong temple is the first of all temples by the organic combination of ancient temple, ancient stage and ancient banyan tree.

Brief introduction to temples

The main gate of Gulong temple is a stage, named wanniantai. It covers an area of 103 square meters and is 8 meters high. It was built in the early Qing Dynasty and has a history of more than 300 years. It is the only one of the nine stages in Huanglongxi.

It is understood that the function of wanniantai built in temples, guilds and towns is to reward gods and entertain guests. The Wannian terrace in Huanglongxi is of wood structure and well preserved, which is rare in the whole province. The 300 square meter courtyard dam in front of the stage used to be a square, a place for meeting, trading and watching opera in the history of the ancient town.

Banyan trees in the temple

There is an ancient banyan tree (also known as Huangge tree and Huangjue tree) in the north and south of wanniantai Yuanba, which has a history of more than 900 years. It is said that the two trees were planted by Huang Long's ancestors when they came here to liberate the common people.

It is said that in the past two tree crowns once covered the whole dam.

In the center of the branch of the trunk of the ancient banyan tree in the north, there is a small temple about two feet square, which worships the "throne of the great immortal Huangjue". It is said that as long as you touch the tree, you can eliminate diseases and disasters.

The ancient banyan trees in the south are intertwined and tightly wrapped in a small earth temple. These two ancient trees, the temple riding trees, tree wrapped temple, can be called the world's unique. Unfortunately, now the shade is no longer green, and the tree riding temple is under repair.

Main building

Just opposite the wanniantai is Maitreya hall. In front of Maitreya hall stands a thousand Buddha iron tower. In addition to Maitreya hall, the main existing buildings of Gulong temple are Daxiong hall, Guanyin hall and Mituo hall.

Sanxian Yamen

There is also a "three county yamen" in Gulong temple. Historically, Huanglongxi belonged to the "Golden Triangle" zone of Huayang county (now Huayang Town, Shuangliu County), Pengshan County and Renshou County, which was plagued by civil, economic disputes and banditry. Therefore, three county yamen (similar to today's joint office) were set up to jointly manage civil affairs, water administration and banditry.

It is understood that Sanxian yamen was built in the Qing Dynasty. It was the chief yamen at the beginning, and changed to Sanxian Yamen in the period of the Republic of China. There is a couplet on both sides of the yamen gate: "Huanglong goes through the mountain and stretches out his dragon claws to hold his chicken wings, while the white horse turns around the river and looks at the tiger rock". The six names on the couplet - Huanglong, Longzhao, chicken wings, Baima, Matou and Huyan subtly contain the jurisdiction of the three county yamen. There is a footprint in yamen, which is said to be the junction of ancient Huayang and Renshou counties. This "Jieshi column" is a relic of the Qing Dynasty. It records the history of irrigation of 40000 mu of fertile farmland in three counties by diverting water from Jinjiang River.

For hundreds of years, this ancient Buddha weir has nurtured one side of the people. Today, the ancient weir, which is not surprising in appearance, still plays an important role in irrigation, and is known as "micro Dujiangyan". It is said that the main functions of the three county yamen at that time were as follows: firstly, the local civil affairs management; secondly, the weir affairs management of the gufoyan irrigation area; thirdly, Huanglongxi was located at the intersection of the three counties, and the banditry problem was also included in the management.

The establishment of Sanxian yamen played a positive role in the local political, economic and cultural development at that time. Sanxian yamen is one of the few preserved Sanxian Yamen in the country, which is now managed by Shuangliu County Office of literature management.

The significance of Tourism

In order to better display the historical, cultural and artistic value of Sanxian Yamen and develop Huanglongxi's tourism, the local authorities have opened an exhibition of unearthed cultural relics and folk cultural relics in Huanglongxi on the original site of Sanxian Yamen. There are many ancient court utensils in the yamen, such as guillotine, tools of torture, official uniforms, etc. In yamen, there are also films such as Furong Town, Zhuo Wenjun and Sima Xiangru, TV series such as Zhu De's childhood and master Haideng. It is understood that Huanglongxi, with beautiful scenery and far away from the hustle and bustle of the city, has always been the favorite of film and television photography teams. A number of film crews have been making films in the town, shooting here one after another Huang Longxi has nearly 200 films and TV plays, which has earned him the reputation of "film city" and "Hollywood of China".
