The Wuhan YMCA started its activities in Wuhan in 1910. The Hankou YMCA was officially established in early 1912, and the Wuchang YMCA was established in June. In 1956, Hankou and Wuchang merged to form Wuhan YMCA. He is a group member of Hubei Province and Wuhan Youth Federation.

Wuhan YMCA has a board of directors. It is composed of people from all walks of life who are enthusiastic about the cause of the Youth Association. In order to maintain the Christian nature of the group, more than one third of the board of directors are Christian. The board of directors is composed of the president, vice president and directors. The director general of the YMCA is an ex officio director. The board of directors shall form different working committees as required to guide and promote the work of the Youth Association, examine the work reports and work plans formulated by the Youth Association, and promote contacts and exchanges with other professional bodies. Work resumed in June 1981. In February 1989, the board of directors was resumed, and Zhang Cairen, a professor of Hubei Medical College, and Fang Zhongdi, the former president of Anglican Church, were elected as the chairman and vice-chairman. In January 1998, Professor Xu Qizhen, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference and a national expert, was elected chairman of the board. In the same year, the board of directors set up an International Exchange Committee and a culture and Education Committee to further promote and assist the Youth Association in carrying out various Ministry activities.
