Lhasa Bridge

Lhasa bridge, also known as Lhasa Liuwu Bridge, is 1660 meters long, with two spans and two-way six lanes. Liuwu Bridge, the first overpass in Tibet, was completed and opened to traffic on May 1, 2007.

Basic introduction

Liuwu highway bridge in Lhasa, which is invested 388.5 million yuan by the state, was started in March 2005. The total length of the bridge is 1660 meters. It is composed of North overpass, main bridge and south approach bridge. It is a modern highway bridge leading to Lhasa railway station in Lhasa city. The bridge was completed and opened to traffic in April 2007. It takes about 10 minutes from the railway station to the Potala Palace. Although the interior decoration of the new buildings in Liuwu new district is not very different from other cities in the mainland, it is close to the new architectural style of Lhasa in appearance. The main features are: continuation of Tibetan style and retention of some Tibetan symbols. For the newly completed Lhasa River Bridge, the design of the main pier is the lotus symbolizing auspiciousness, and the design of the approach pier is the yak leg symbolizing strength; most of the buildings along the Qinghai Tibet railway and Liuwu new area use the colors commonly used in white, red and yellow Tibetan religious buildings.

Basic characteristics

Lhasa River Bridge is the only super large bridge with non-standard design along the Qinghai Tibet railway. The project was started in May 2003 and completed in August 2005. It was undertaken by China Railway Bridge Bureau Co., Ltd. In the project construction, aiming at the unique plateau natural environment, flexible fluorocarbon paint protection system is adopted for steel structure, plateau durability concrete is adopted for structural concrete, and silicone surface protection system is adopted. Especially in plateau area, continuous concrete-filled steel tubular arch composite system is adopted. These designs are adopted for the first time in China, with novel structure, national characteristics and modern style, and are far away from the Potala Palace.
