Located in the southwest of Shangsi County, Fangchenggang City, its predecessor is Hongqi forest farm, which is an ecological public welfare forest farm with water source forest as the management and protection object. Guangxi Shiwandashan National Nature Reserve belongs to Shangsi County, Fangchenggang City, Guangxi. A small part of it is located in Fangcheng District, which belongs to Shiwandashan Mountain range. It is located in Southwest China, adjacent to Beibu Gulf of South China Sea, and close to the border between China and Vietnam. The main protected objects include precious and rare animal and plant resources and their habitats, the main water conservation forest in the southern coastal area of Guangxi, the mountain evergreen broad-leaved forest in the vertical band spectrum and the typical natural landscape in different natural zones. The forest coverage rate of the reserve is 64.8% (excluding shrub).

The geographical coordinates of Shiwandashan National Nature Reserve in Guangxi are 107 ° 29 ′ 59 ″ - 108 ° 13 ′ 11 ″ E and 21 ° 40 ′ 03 ″ - 22 ° 04 ′ 18 ″ n. The total area of the reserve is 58277.1 hectares, including 23585.2 hectares of core area, 22646.1 hectares of buffer area, 12045.8 hectares of experimental area, and 64.8% of forest coverage. In 1982, Shiwandashan Provincial Nature Reserve was established, and in June 2003, it was promoted to National Nature Reserve with the approval of the state Council.

Historical evolution

In June 1982, Guangxi Shiwandashan National Nature Reserve was established with the approval of Guangxi regional government. After 21 years of management and protection by the Forestry Department of Fangchenggang, the forest area of the reserve has increased by 2000 hectares.

In 2002, the nature reserve was declared as a national nature reserve. In June 2003, it was promoted to a national nature reserve with the approval of the State Council.

Geological characteristics

The strata in the axis of Shiwandashan mountains are mainly Triassic continental sandstone, mudstone and conglomerate, Jurassic sandstone and conglomerate in the north and Indosinian granite porphyry and granite in the south. The Himalayan movement was affected by the intrusion of granites, which resulted in the formation of overlapping monoclinic mountains. The northwest slope is gentle and the southeast slope is steep. The mountain is majestic and the ridge line is obvious.

Shiwanda mountain is located in the coastal area of southern China. It is the highest mountain in southern Guangxi. It belongs to the North tropical monsoon zone and the south subtropical marine monsoon climate. Although shiwanda mountain is in the low latitude zone, ice can be seen in the mountains above 1200 meters above sea level.

There are many rivers and water resources in Shiwandashan nature reserve, mainly including Beilun River, Nasuo River, Fangcheng river, Dasi River and Dazhi River, which originate from the south slope of Shiwandashan and flow into Beibu Gulf. Mingjiang River, Pingfu River and Gongan River originate from the north slope of Shiwandashan and flow into Zuojiang river.

There are 2233 species of vascular plants belonging to 912 genera and 219 families in Shiwandashan National Nature Reserve, including 150 species of pteridophytes belonging to 76 genera and 30 families, 16 species of gymnosperms belonging to 9 genera and 8 families, and 2067 species of angiosperms belonging to 827 genera and 181 families. There are 1713 species of dicotyledons belonging to 154 families, 648 genera and 354 species of monocotyledons belonging to 27 families, 179 genera. There are 4 new records in Chinese mainland, and 10 new records in Guangxi.

Animal resources

In the nature reserve, there are 2 species of national first-class key protected wild plants, and 13 species of national second-class key protected wild plants, such as Cibotium tomentosa and Alsophila spinulosa. There are 5 species of wild animals under the first level national protection: clouded leopard, leopard, forest musk deer, giant lizard and python; and 44 species of wild animals under the second level national protection. There are many kinds of insects and abundant resources in Shiwandashan nature reserve. Up to 2010, 719 species of 169 families in 23 orders have been identified, including 1 new genus, 27 new species, 8 new records in China, 27 endemic insects and 33 rare insects.

Protected objects

The main protected objects of Shiwandashan National Nature Reserve include precious and rare animal and plant resources and their habitats, the main water conservation forest in the southern coastal area of Guangxi, the mountain evergreen broad-leaved forest in the vertical band spectrum and the typical natural landscape in different natural zones. There are two kinds of national first-class key protected plants, namely narrow leaf slope base and Shiwandashan Cycas.

1. Narrow leaf horst

Endangered species. Evergreen trees, 25 m high, 75 cm DBH. The resin can be used for spray painting, etc. the wood is hard and corrosion-resistant, and has wide application. Wild plants under the first class national key protection.

2. Shiwandashan Cycas

Cycas balansae is an evergreen palm plant, scientific name: Cycas balansae, Latin scientific name: Cycas balansae. It is distributed under the broad-leaved forest of low-altitude Valley in Fangchenggang City, Guangxi. It is a national first-class protected species, with high research and ornamental value.

3. Golden dog spine

It is the rhizome of hyriophytaceae. The content of starch in rhizome is about 30%. The rhizome contains 48.5% starch and tannins. The rhizome contains starch and gossypol, and the soft hair of rhizome contains tannin and pigment, which has high medicinal value.

The Shiwandashan National Nature Reserve is rich in landscape resources, with mountains, cliffs, ravines, flowing springs, vast forests and clouds. Shiwandashan National Forest Park

Bazhaigou

Located in Dongli village, Guitai Town, Qinbei District, more than 50 kilometers northwest of Qinzhou, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, it is one of the source rivers of the Dasi River in Qinzhou. It belongs to the dalongling watershed system, a branch of the shiwanda mountain, and is located at the northern foot of the 100000 mountain. The climate of bazhaigou tourist area is subtropical monsoon climate, with no severe cold in winter and no severe heat in summer. It has beautiful scenery, profound cultural heritage and rich historical sites. It can carry out patriotic education and revolutionary tradition education.

Bazhaigou tourist area is more than 20 miles away from the north-south highway, and only more than 3 kilometers away from the Qinzhou Shangsi second-class highway. The roads entering the scenic area are all concrete and asphalt roads, without high slopes.
