When criticizing others, pave a way for them to retreat

When some mistakes have to be pointed out face to face, one thing you must do is to pave the way for the other party when criticizing.

In order to "pave the way" for each other, you can assume that both parties did not have all the facts at the beginning. For example, you can say:

"Of course, I fully understand why you think so, because you didn't know that at that time."

"In this case, anyone would do it."

"At first, I thought the same way, but later when I learned the whole story, I knew I was wrong."

Smart people know not to tear their faces when criticizing others, but to pave the way for others when they have no way out. In this way, the other party will know what is wrong, and then correct their own mistakes.
