The predecessor of Guangdong sports vocational and technical college is Guangdong sports school. Founded in 1956, Guangdong sports school is a national key sports secondary vocational school, a national high-level sports reserve talent base, and an important reserve talent base for excellent sports teams in Guangdong Province. Since its establishment to the end of 2005, 1210 excellent sports reserve talents have been sent to the national, provincial and Bayi excellent sports teams, 27 (73 person times) world champions and 132 (389 person times) national champions have been trained, and a large number of qualified primary and secondary school sports teachers have been trained for the society. Over the years, a large number of sports stars have emerged in our school, such as Jiang Jialiang, Xian Dongmei, Chen Xiaomin, sun Caiyun, Dong Zhaozhi, Xing Fen, Yu zhuanghui, Ji zebiao, Liao wenfen, Fu Xiaoyun and Liu Qiurong, who have made outstanding contributions to the country. Especially in the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, our school won a gold medal and a bronze medal in women's judo, and the fourth place in women's 4 × 100 meter medley, realizing the breakthrough of zero gold medal in our school's Olympic Games.

The glorious history of Guangdong sports school has laid a solid foundation for the vigorous development of Guangdong sports vocational and technical college.

In 2003, with the approval of the provincial people's government, Guangdong sports school was upgraded to Guangdong sports vocational and technical college, and the first batch of college students were recruited in 2004. At present, the college has set up social sports, competitive sports, physical education, sports health care, sports service and management of five professional, 13 professional direction.

The college is divided into North Campus (Tianhe) and East Campus (Olympic Sports Center), with a total area of more than 136000 square meters and a building area of more than 110000 square meters. The east campus is close to the Olympic Sports Center, and the north campus is adjacent to the Tianhe Sports Center. The unique geographical location endows the college with unique conditions and educational environment.

The college has an office, a human security office, an educational administration office, a general affairs office and an affiliated competitive sports school (hereinafter referred to as "four schools and one school"), teaching institutions have social sports department, competitive sports department, basic education department and adult education department (hereinafter referred to as "two departments and two departments"), and teaching auxiliary institutions have libraries, medical centers, computer and audio-visual teaching centers. On November 21, 2005, the first "professional skill appraisal station for special types of work in sports industry" was established in China. The college has 212 teaching staff, including 134 full-time teachers, coaches and researchers, 7 professors and national coaches, 28 associate professors and senior coaches, and 51 professional and technical personnel with intermediate titles. At present, there are nearly 1000 students in the school, including more than 300 grade 06 college students, more than 100 five-year college students, and nearly 500 primary and secondary school students in the affiliated competitive sports school. By 2010, there will be more than 2500 full-time vocational college students and 1200-1500 competitive sports school students.

The college has advanced and complete teaching instruments, with a total value of 20 million yuan. There are 19 classrooms, 10 multimedia classrooms, 2 computer rooms and 1 voice room. Ordinary classrooms are equipped with loudspeakers, slide projection, TV, VCD, tape recorder and intelligent broadcasting system. The college attaches great importance to the construction of the library and has built the library in the East Campus of Huangcun. The college has 22 first-class indoor and outdoor sports venues, some of which share resources with the Olympic Sports Center and Huangcun training base, and are equipped with advanced training equipment. The college has advanced scientific research equipment, strong talent force, first-class level and remarkable achievements.
