Wuhan Electric Power Vocational and technical college, formerly known as Wuhan Electric Power School, was founded in 1953 by Hubei electric power company. Under the guidance of Hubei Provincial Department of education, it was transformed into an ordinary higher vocational college with the approval of Hubei Provincial People's Government in 2002. After 56 years of construction and development, it has become a modern higher vocational college with distinctive school running characteristics, advanced teaching equipment, strong teachers, high employment rate of students, rich cultural atmosphere, elegant campus environment and good social reputation, known as "Hubei Electric Power Huangpu".

The college has 434 faculty members, including 279 full-time teachers, 135 with senior professional titles, 68 with master's degree or above, and 145 "double qualification" teachers. The college simulation training center has strong R & D strength and is a national power system simulation training base. Since participating in the first 300MW Thermal power unit simulator in 1988, we have independently developed 200MW thermal power unit simulator, 300MW Thermal power unit simulator of distributed control system, 600MW supercritical thermal power unit simulator, 220kV substation simulator, 500kV substation simulator and 500kV integrated automation substation simulator. In 2008, we completed the research and development of the training system for substation operation of 1000kV UHV AC demonstration project, which has been officially accepted. The expert group confirmed that the project "fills in the domestic blank, and the overall technology is at the leading level in China". At present, the 1000MW ultra supercritical thermal power simulation project and unattended substation operation simulation project are under development. Its self-developed wdm-2001 power enterprise integrated management system, bdz-3000 substation automation system, sfjk-3000 series hydropower plant monitoring system, TDWLT Double Microcomputer Excitation Regulator, MC Ⅱ computer multi-function power frequency meter, gate controller, governor and other 10 kinds of products are widely used in Hubei power system, making an important contribution to power production.
