North Central University

Zhongbei university is a multi-disciplinary teaching and Research University jointly built by the people's Government of Shanxi Province and the State Administration of science, technology and industry for national defense, and managed by the people's Government of Shanxi Province. Its predecessor was Taihang Industrial school, the first military school of our party and army founded by the general command of the Eighth Route Army in Taihang Anti Japanese base area in 1941. After Taiyuan Institute of machinery and North China Institute of technology, it was renamed Zhongbei university with the approval of the Ministry of education in June 2004.

North China University is located in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province, a famous historical and cultural city in China, and has a campus in Shuozhou. The school covers a total area of 2501 mu, with a construction area of nearly 1.01 million square meters. The total value of fixed assets is 1.93 billion yuan, and the total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is 610 million yuan. It can use 2.91 million books in Chinese and foreign languages, and has perfect teaching and public service facilities.

At present, the university has 13 professional colleges, with graduate school, reserve officer education college, International Education College (Preparatory) and other teaching institutions. At present, there are 1 national key (cultivation) discipline, 10 key disciplines in Shanxi Province, 5 advantageous and characteristic key disciplines in Shanxi Province, and 5 national defense characteristic disciplines (Specialties) in the eleventh five year plan. It has 6 postdoctoral mobile stations, 5 first-class disciplines authorized by doctoral degree, 23 doctoral programs, 20 first-class disciplines authorized by master's degree, 63 master's programs and 78 undergraduate majors, covering eight disciplines of engineering, science, arts, economics, management, law, education and art. It has the qualification of exemption from examination recommended by postgraduates, the right to apply for master's degree conferment with the same academic level and the right to confer master's professional degree in three categories.

There are more than 30000 full-time students, including more than 3000 doctoral and master's degree students. The university has been selected into the "excellent engineer education and training plan of the Ministry of education" and "basic ability construction project of universities in central and Western China". It has national teaching team, national excellent courses, national experimental teaching demonstration center, national virtual simulation experimental teaching center, National College Students' cultural quality education base, national engineering practice education center and other high-quality teaching resources. It has obtained excellent results in the undergraduate teaching evaluation of the Ministry of education in 2002 and 2007.

The university has National Key Laboratory of national defense science and technology, key discipline laboratory of national defense, key laboratory and engineering technology center of Ministry of education, provincial and ministerial laboratory and engineering technology center and other scientific research institutions, and has science and technology industrialization incubation base of Shanxi Zhongbei National University Science and technology park. The scientific research achievements are widely used in the field of national defense science and technology industry and local economic construction. Since the 11th five year plan, it has successively undertaken 254 national level projects, with a total number of more than 3600 projects of various types. The total funding for scientific research projects is nearly 2.2 billion yuan. It has won 5 second-class national science and technology awards, 96 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards, published nearly 6000 SCI and EI papers, and published more than 330 academic monographs and textbooks.
