Tianjin Maritime Vocational College

Tianjin Maritime Vocational College was founded in 1962, formerly known as Tianjin University of science and technology. In 2006, with the approval of Tianjin Municipal People's government and the record of the Ministry of education, it was transformed into Tianjin Maritime Vocational College. It is a comprehensive full-time state-run higher vocational college, which mainly trains seafarers and has disciplines of science, engineering, economics and management. It is one of the seafarer training institutions declared by China's maritime administration to the international maritime organization. It is also the first institution in North China by Tianjin Maritime Administration to train seafarers with foreign competency certificate. It is also the first education and training unit in North China to pass the certification of seafarer education and training quality system issued by the State Maritime Administration.

The main campus of the college is located in Tianjin Binhai New Area. Covering an area of 180 mu, 75000 square meters of buildings including teaching, training, comprehensive office, gymnasium, student canteen and apartment have been built.  

There are 209 teaching staff in the college. Among the 112 full-time teachers, 48 have graduate education, accounting for 45% of the total number of teachers, and 88 have intermediate or higher professional titles, accounting for more than 79% of the total number of teachers.

The college adheres to the school running policy of vigorously developing maritime specialty and adapting to the demand of Binhai New Area Construction for relevant professionals, and has set up teaching institutions such as Department of maritime engineering, Department of information engineering, Department of engineering technology, Department of economic and trade management, Department of applied foreign languages, crew training office, basic courses department and adult education center. It has set up maritime management, international shipping business management, navigation technology, marine engineering technology, hotel management (cruise crew), physical and chemical testing and quality inspection technology (non-destructive testing), pipeline engineering construction, container transportation management, logistics management, computer network technology, etc.

At present, the college has all kinds of experimental equipment required by marine specialty, and has the teaching environment and school running conditions for marine professional education. Among them, the newly built marine simulator training room and marine engine simulator training room have reached the leading level in China. In 2007, the college was identified as the first batch of training base construction projects of Vocational Colleges in Tianjin by the Municipal Education Commission and the Municipal Finance Bureau.

With the purpose of serving students and the orientation of employment, the college adheres to the Trinity Teaching Mode of "diploma education, vocational skills training and vocational qualification certificate training", so that students can obtain the competency certificate and vocational qualification certificate corresponding to their major while obtaining the diploma, and become the advanced technical talents at the college level. In the process of student management, combined with the characteristics of maritime transportation, the semi military mode is adopted to strengthen the quality training and cultivation education for students.

The 21st century is an ocean century. Education is the first to develop the ocean. The college will take the construction of "maritime and port talent training base" as the development direction, take the road of combining production, teaching and research, provide strong human resources support for regional economic development, and build the college into a higher vocational college with distinctive professional characteristics and in line with the national higher education demonstration standards.
