[plant morphology] Herba thunbergii

Evergreen perennial, ca. 35 cm tall. The underground part has bulb, white, round, about 2-2.5cm long; the scales are membranous, brown, with 3 longitudinal ribs on the back, and hairy. The leaves are palmately compound, 3 leaflets, broadly obovate, 3.5 cm long and 1.5-3.5 cm wide, apex concave, entire, hairy, with brown cavernous glandular dots on both sides; petiole 20-24 cm long, slender, villous. The flower stems are from leaf axils and corymbs, with 5-10 flowers; sepals are 5, green, with a pair of red glands at the tip; petals are 5, purplish red; stamens are 10, 5 long and 5 short; ovary is 5-locular, style is 5, separated. Capsule short linear, 1.7-2 cm long, hairy, dehiscent at maturity. Seeds small, oval, brown. The flowering period is May. The fruit period is from June to July.

It can be planted in forest, slope or garden. It is cultivated in all parts of China.
